I made this cake for my Mom's birthday back in January, but I just got the photo's off my camera today (don't judge me >.>)

It's a simple chocolate cake, made from scratch. The chocolate icing is also homemade. I cut the heart out of the thin layer of cake that I cut off the top of the middle layer (to make it flat). It doesn't look that fantastic (my Mom makes much prettier cakes) but it's the first cake I've ever made completely by myself, and I'm proud of it.

You should have seen her face when I gave it to her. I somehow managed to spend two hours in the kitchen without her figuring out what I was doing (I had my brother watching her, to warn me when she was coming) and it was a complete surprise to her. I've never done anything big for her birthday before and she was really happy~ <3
