Actually, in Japan, Power Rangers, or Super Sentai, was made before Voltron, so technically, that makes Voltron a Power Rangers knockoff, in that it just steals the concept of Power Rangers! Β Don't believe me? Β Wiki that!

Actually giant robot animes were nothing new when Voltron was made. In fact, the show Voltron was a dub of, GoLion, was a failure in Japan. Voltron only got popular once it aired in the states.

i dont know about combiners but the reason why we even go a mecha in Battle Fever J was because of the japanese spiderman. Im assuming Denji robo was also because of Leopardon. Then we got the fist combiner in sun vulcan which it might have an influence from mecha anime since mecha anime started to surge around when Gorenger was made...
