Description Oh Lord General, when thou awakenst, thine world has perished in thine flames of regret.
Oh Lord General, when thou awakenst, wilt thou have the strength to see what thou hast become?

--

This painting really drove me nuts. At least it was nice to draw Azimuth again.

For the past month, this painting has been the bane of my existence. I knew exactly what I wanted, but I couldn't get there. It definitely was a formative experience, and I have learned a lot about myself as an artist. At least it is done, and I have finished something noteworthy this month. Rejoice!

And yes, I have played way too much Dark Souls lately.

(expanding upon my previous comment cuz i made that on mobile)

Again, gorgeous lighting and shading work done here. The background flame glow might seem a little too diluted in contrast to the background but is still well done regardless.

Only part of the lighting that might need some work would be that column lighting in the middle is a tad too harsh compared to the rest of the lighting effects in this piece. Its not evenly spread out and the way it's shaded on the chair makes it seem as if the velvet cushion part is particularly more forward than the rest of the chair itself.

A quick fix for this is giving the central lighting a bit of a conical shape and using Gaussian blur to make it look less like solid cell shading. The lights hitting the cushion should be given a slightly randomized shaping as to mimic lighting on fabric and extend the overcast glow to the upper parts of the decorative pieces as well.

Other than that might be just some minor perspective/anatomy disparities but then again it's not easy to draw from a front facing sitting angle. Legs just seem a tad too long the way it looks from here, but its a minor nitpick I guess.

Keep up the good work, all in all this is still a great piece.

First of all, thank you so much for your critique, Terra!!! I really appreciate it loads and wanted to make sure that I would find enough time to properly respond to the feedback. You're a champ!

Thanks for the feedback on my lighting! I'll keep it in mind for the flame. This time around I think I was a bit too much influenced by the darksign symbol in Dark Souls. I have never seen it bounce of light, but rather remain contained. I should have paid better attention, so thanks for pointing it out!

I see what you mean with the backrest of the throne! I didn't notice it at first, but now that you've highlighted the issue it almost sticks out like a sore thumb. I'll remember this when I revisit it. And with the light column: You're right that it looks more artificial than natural. This time around I wanted to evoke a realy artificial feeling with the light column, but maybe it was too much. I'll revise it for the next time!

Thanks again for the really great review! You rock!

I swear, I really need to sit down and binge-read Shellshock. Β I found it on FFnet a long time back, but then I saw that there were newer chapters and art of the story and argh! I need to read it (and leave some reviews lol)!Β Β
I don't know how else to say it (I really can't find the words, so I'll try to put this in the best thing I can come up with), but you absolutely ROCKED this!Β Β Β Β *This is the part where I curse myself for not reading the story* I don't know what this is referring to, but I am so interested! Β Azimuth, least without reading the story, looks like a bada$$ warrior king that's bathing in his regrets from the past! The lighting is so freaking perfect and OH MY GOD all the little details!!! The intricacies of so many things... just... whoa... I'm kind of just blown away by your new piece. Β  Β  Β And of course... I'm interested to see the story behind it. For now though, I need to put this in my Favs and come back to it later when I have more knowledge on the story. An incredible piece, and one that shows so much beauty after a month of hard work!Β Β Β Β
Incredible job on this piece! Keep up the epic work!Β Β Β Β

Hahahah, ShellShock is a very, very long fanfiction! Remember to take breaks when you get to the story! I would be really happy to get reviews from you. Your comments are always such a delight to read!
I usually design my covers to be standalone pieces that can be enjoyed by both readers and the general public. People who've read the story know of course the meaning of my design choices, but... The details were a big challenge for me! I haven't had such an intricate painting in quite some time, so I am very glad my efforts have paid off.

Thank you again for your really kind comment, and for taking the time to leave your impressions! <3 I really do appreciate it. Sorry my reply took so long!
