Yet again no I am not making this sword, and for good reasonNow im not a big fan on final fantasy, I like the swords thats about it. However for me Genesis Rapier has to be the best design of a sword in the entire series. So I might aswell draw a technical sword design of that sword aswell since I have already done Zacks Buster Sword. This sword is the complete opposite of the buster sword also. However this one lacks measurments, thats becuase this sword is entirely made of curves which is a nightmare. However this sword is a 1:1 ratio full scale size replica drawing of the sword. This sword took almost 4 hours to draw correctly, I mean its so goddam detailed I had to look at multiple refrences. Now I will say that my drawing is 90% accurate becuase pretty much everything on the knuckle bow was made up. It was too difficult to figure out what the details were correctly like. This is easily one of the most detailed swords I have seen and a person who repicates the sword with every detail is a master.

Genesis is my favourite of the compilation or maybe even the whole series.
Also your work is epic, you must be either very patient or determined. I'm not too patient for sth like this, lol.

Yeah I agree with you, you never actually get a good look at the other side of the hilt, it makes sense that they might be attached to allow for more stability and rigidity. However, most of the pictures I've seen seem to show that they are separate, the one on the ffwiki does at the very least even though it's small, it shows the piece at a bit of an angle and it looks like the pieces never touch except for at the knuckle bow. My wife also says they should not meet at the tips for a pair of wings should not be bound XD A bit philosophical on her end, but I can see where she's coming from.
I imagine this is going to be fun, it's going to take a lot of time and effort on our parts, but I think for something like this you have to be crafty, creative, patient, and just slightly crazy XD

My brother and I(though we have never tried to make anything like this) accept your challenge! We are using your very well designed sketch for the basis for our measurements for the hilt and guard, as they seem pretty accurate. Definitely the most accurate I have seen anyway. The overall length is going to be about 5'7" and we are going to be using metal wires to make the wing details of the guard as well as the base for the knuckle guard. It is going to be one hell of a challenge we have no doubt. But we have some pretty interesting ideas that we think will work pretty well.

I wouldnt use my drawing as closely as you have suggested when making the sword lol, the knuckle bow alone I kinda made up when I could not really make out clearly the rest of the details, though I do wish you the best of luck in this

Yeah I noticed this, I have looked for multiple sources as well when it comes to the knuckle bow, but as you said, it's really hard to get good enough detailing on it. But you give yourself too little credit I think, aside from that everything else seems spot on. My brother and I were debating yesterday as to whether or not the tips of the wings that come up from the knuckle bow should attach to each other at their tips above the cross guard. It's hard to tell if they do or not, though I think that it would add more stability to the piece, what do you think?
And thank you very much, I have no doubt we're going to need a lot of luck and patience on this project. If my brother and I can pull this off, we could probably make any cosplay weapon we ever need XD

You see thats also another thing because simply because your hand is blocking the other side of the sword, its difficult to actually see if the wing tips are actually attached at all, but I don't think they are. I think its just one half of a wing attached to the center

This drawing would have helped a great deal...I almost wanted to kill myself multiple times, especially after I realized the sword was tilted toward the viewer in the official SE character art. >
I have commissions for 2 more of these in the next few months so hopefully with the new information I've found (multiple people have sent me references to help), I can get the rest of the hilt up to accuracy. The part I had the most problem with was the very butt end of the hilt where the gem is set.

You are quite the artist. I've been paging through all your work....It's quite beautiful....really....I'm rather impressed. I'm actually a huge fan of FFVII myself....the rest of them are kind of meh to me....and this is the best drawing I've ever seen of A genesis sword.

I've never been a big fan of rapiers. There just never seemed to be alot of variation in the styles. This however is awesome to look at.

No I know that, I just mean in the ones I've seen in real life. There's very little variation in those. My experience is limited and so is my exposure to the different apperances by proxy.

I am amazed at your drawing skills.
Like I said you'd have to use a lost wax castings to do this. but for show purposes I think you could do it using plumbers epoxy or ceramic. You'd have to keep it in a case afterward because it would be extremely fragile.

This is a link to silenttweak's site - the videos section. Here you can find all the CC cutscenes in high quality and quite a few formats to download. If you go at Chapter 4, cutscene 07 called "1st Class fun", that is the famous Junon Cannon duel. Check out at minute 4:56-4:57, the moment when Genesis takes his sword from the virtual room's floor. There's a nice close-up to it, the best I know of, even though the Materia slot at the end of the hilt can't be seen there, but for the rest it's crystal-clear.

Ok, so... yay~! I'm starting on drawing out specs and gearing up lists for supplies on making Genesis' Rapier...
And... I was going to draw it... (still will...XD)... but, this seriously helps me! Thank you! 
Now, keep in mind... I'm making this... but, I'm no pro or anything. I have patience however... XD I'll be sure to let you know when I have a nice finished product... though... it's going to take me 6 months to a year to get supplies (and money for them) and then the making of it.
But.... very nice job on catching the details... this is a great help...
