Haven't really used Fireworks, but you can achieve similar effects in Photoshop. It won't be vector so not great for a logo, but for general illustration it should be fine. Apparently Fireworks has better vector support than Photoshop but no idea how to use it!

This one is just for my regular job ^_^ The site is a side project that my boss is working on, he hasn't told me all the details yet. Mostly we do web design and branding stuff for other people.
