Now that I've made the comparison (thank you Google) I can see that. The smug facial expression surely tells us, the viewers, that he knows what he's doing...whatever that is (I assume he's a detective in the show as well; I've never watched it). What really draws me to any character are the eyes. Eyes are the most important, to me, because they almost always sum up what's happening in the scene from mild to extreme scenarios. Despite how calm the eyes look, there is still emotion in them. Mr. Holmes here tells me that he's calm, chill, and perhaps giving Jon that look that has infatuated so many fans, thereby creating the large fanbase that I've seen all across the internet. About the only other thing I could say is, I envy you cause I wish I knew how to draw

Thank you for that elaboration haha, I do try to convey the emotions or the person's character through their eyes sometimes. And yes, Sherlock secretly loves the huge amount of attention he gets.
