Description Ah, the ever-so-cliche Parrot pirate anthro. Actually, I have no idea how many there are. I don't do research. x3 I've met a few Parrots, though. Mostly Scarlet Macaws, and one Hyacinth Macaw.
I'm not too sure on the breed for Catalina, from which she gets her name. I saw one of these macaws once, and for some reason the name 'Catalina Macaw' got stuck in my head. For all I remember, it could have been "Carolina" xD lol No Latin nomenclature this time. ^^ Her pose looks a bit funny, but oh well x3 This idea was actually my best friend's.

::EDIT:: This is a bit overdue, but I've been corrected on my species for Catalina. She is a Greenwing, not a Catalina. Thanks, ~Raven-and-Fox !

Could you please draw two pictures. Female blue gold macaw laying on bed. Side A: Chilling and smiling. Side B: Enjoying the passion.

Catalina macaws are a hybrid macaw- usually the father is a scarlet macaw and the mother is a blue and gold (though it can be the other way around, though scarlet hens are harder to find then b&g's). In aviculture, most hybrids are frowned upon, as scarlets are a threatened species in the wild and hybridization is certianly no way to preserve a species. However, they are very pretty (though l like the 'true' species better).

And, actually, the parrot (anthro I guess is the term?) you drew isn't a catalina, a scarlet or a blue and gold. It's a greenwing macaw, the second largest of the macaws.

Greenwings are entirely deep, crimson red with green and blue (never yellow) on the wings. Thy have red feather tracing on the face. Scarlets are a brighter (Scarlet, lol) red with yellow ad blue on the wing. Some may have a limited amount of green, but there is always yellow. They do not have feather tracing on their bare faces. Blue and golds are, well, blue on the back and gold underneith with black feather tracing and a black 'bib'. Catalinas often have the paterning of their blue and gold parent, with aqua-green where the blue is and sherbert orange where the yellow is. The feathers tracing the bare face patch are a mix of black and red in the catalina and are much thinner then in the b&g parent.

Yes, I am the bird nerd, lol

Nice feet, by the way- most people who draw parrot feet draw them entirely wrong. You've an excellent eye for detail, if you've only seen one once!

Wow. Thanks for the info. :3 It's very helpful to me.
Yay for bird nerds! I'm one too, but I haven't been around parrots that much. I love 'em, but I'm not around them as much as I would like. And it was years ago, when I was around eight years old, that I first saw a catalina macaw. Been a decade, so yep, I'm bound to be fuzzy on that memory.
I tend more towards the raptors and carnivorous exotics, really. x3

Thank you very, very much. ^^

Well, I'm impressed, because you have a very accurate (well, except for the whole kind-of-like-a-person thing, lol) greenwing!

Parrots are fantastic- if you enjoy ear-shattering sceams, blueberries smeared on your walls, feathers everywhere and bandaged fingers, which I do, lol.

Then again, with raptors you have ear-shattering screams, dead animals smeared on your walls, feathers everywhere and bandaged fingers, so I suppose there's not much to choose between the two, lol!

Once again, thanks.

I used to have to babysit a blue-fronted parrot for my late maternal grandpa. I didn't like him (the parrot) that much because he was always yelling and making a ton of noise. Then again, I was about four years old. xD Once I knew why they were so noisy, and once I owned a yellow budgie of my own, I really began to like them. :3

lol I suppose not! x3 I'd love to have a pet falcon, though. Or another cockatiel. Either way works!

And yet another fave.

I don't know. I trawl DA weekly for new bird anthros and favourite those I like without a second thought.

I only realised that a lot of them were yours when I got a DA popup telling me that I'd fav'd a lot of your stuff...

So, hooray for random incidents, I say...

lol Thanks :3 I'm glad you like my birds.
I'm kinda starting to think I'm one of few prevalent Bird Anthro artists, now that you've pointed that out >.>

Hawk-v3 In reply to Chobaryu [2008-01-08 11:16:43 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, maybe.

I don't understand how a search for 'bird' in the anthro section turns up wolves, dragons, humans AND birds though...

-_-

Chobaryu In reply to Hawk-v3 [2008-01-08 22:32:51 +0000 UTC]

Do you use the words 'bird anthro'? I find that the 'anthro' part of it turns up all the others. >.< Rather frustrating, really, 'cause we birds are so rare compared to the dogs and others.
I personally prefer the term 'avian'

Hawk-v3 In reply to Chobaryu [2008-01-09 15:41:38 +0000 UTC]

No, just 'bird'.

I prefer avian too.

Might submit pics with that tag as well.

Yeah, trawling through the site looking for anthro birds is a lot less fruitful than you might think...

Chobaryu In reply to Hawk-v3 [2008-01-11 04:49:14 +0000 UTC]

*nod* We're just not very common, I guess because we're hard to turn into anthros; or so some artists say.

I dunno why I keep saying 'we' to refer to bird anthros

Hawk-v3 In reply to Chobaryu [2008-01-11 14:53:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, we (and I tend to always say that...) are inclined to disagree...

I suppose it depends on preference. I can't draw humans, I always muck up the nose and ears.
