I like it half finished, it gives a deeper meaning.

Like, 8 or something already lols. Dunno how much of that is just staring blankly at the ref or the canvas though. My brain tends to switch off every now and then.

what did you use to lay down the original sketch?
my oils seems to pick up any lead or charcoal based materials i use, so i get lame smudging when i paint over my sketching D:

What you're meant to do is spray your sketch with a fixative. That's what I've been told.
I however don't have any fixative handy, so I just let my paint pick up the charcoal. My colours are generally subdued anyways, and if I want cleaner colours or intensity, I just use more paint. I generally don't use turps or any thinning mediums like linseed oil - usually just paint straight from the tube.
