Personality: René is quite sensitive about things, but his naive and oblivious nature helps to lessen the blow somewhat. Nevertheless he tries to carry himself with confidence. As for his cross-dressing hobby, he is secure with who he is and doesn't mind if people accept him or not for it; but he cares if they accept him as a marionette. But he would rather make friends with everyone. He likes to tease male and female alike, just to elicit a reaction out of them; though, it always backfires on him because he just doesn't have the bravado to follow it up, and gets fluster, when the other person joins in the game. His actions are playful and he sees the world with childlike wonder. And not unlike a child, the more you tell him not to do something the more he inclined he is to do it, as long as it's not an action of bad intention. In addition, he is quite competitive and can become a tad obsessive with the task at hand.
His lack of social experience leads him interpret situations and form conclusions in laughable ways. Also, because of this reason, he can come off as a little excessive in gestures and speech, sometimes rubbing off on marionettes in the wrong way, but it is all unintentionally on his end. Moreover, he is always very puzzled when he comes across new emotions and can get stressed easily from high tensions conversations, which sometimes can lead him to act out rather uncharacteristically. However, upon reflection of such incidence at a later time, he feels consuming remorse and apologizes. Despite, his ignorance of about social interactions, Rene is very loyal to his friends and feels happiest when he knows he is helping others.
Biography: René remembers the day he awoke he was adorned in a modest beige dress shirt, a plain navy tailcoat with minimal ornaments, bleached breeches and black boots. It was very apparent that he was a male despite his slender frame.
But walking on the main road, his head would turn as ladies pass by him, he believed all of them were beautiful but he couldn't help as his focus drifted to their dresses. René was captivated by the design of the dresses, from the very simple to the very elaborate, the vibrant colours of the fabrics, the trimmings and how they seem to float and compliment their wearers. His thoughts escalated to wonder if he would ever be able to wear those pretty creations for himself.
This fascination for dresses became a sort of obsession to the point that just being able to glimpse at the dresses wasn't enough anymore. He soon bought books, rolls of fabrics and spent days locked in his room learning how to sew. On the rare breaks he took, he spent hours watching the other marionettes, in particular the females. Studying and trying to commit to memory, their mannerisms, their facial expressions and how they carried themselves, so that he may perfect the female image for himself. Taking all he learned from his observations, he would practice in front of a floor mirror by himself.
After much trial and error, René finished his first dress, and venture out as a first time 'female.' Gathering courage that he normally didn't have, he went up to the dress stands and talked to the vendors; he asked about certain techniques and fabric types and had a lot of fun chatting with them. However, always just under the surface of it all, René was frightened of what would happen if he was ever found out to be male. How would his sector view him as a cross dresser? The sector he had joined from the start was “La Moralité et L'amour” and they were one of the more accepting ones, but...was this pushing it?
One day, as he left his house 'transformed,' Lucien was there and it was too late to hide because the Elite already saw him. As René tried to formulate an excuse to explain his predicament, Lucien, to his surprise, gave a nod and complimented him by saying he'd had an eye for coordination. These few words lit a fire within Rene and encouraged him to cast off his shame. If an Elite didn't think of him any differently because of his unusual hobbies, then he shouldn't be so hard on himself. He now wants, more than ever before, to spread love and acceptance to all other marionettes. With new confidence in himself and his ability to sew, René helps other marionettes with tailoring their clothes and doing commissions while he in the safety of his house. Finally, after 80 years of hiding in his home with a maximum of four ventures outside his house a month, he mustered up the courage to leave his home and interact with others face to face. So now, in addition to what he was doing before, he holds both private and public sewing lessons/sessions to those who are interested (usually in the plaza for public and anywhere the other person would like for the private one), everyone and anyone is welcomed.
As being a member of a sector that promotes good morals and love to all, and because of his own beliefs, he also aids the Rebelles by mending their clothes. He meets with them in secret to provide these services because of how Rebelles are isolated from society.
Opinion of The Creator: Rene believes that Charlotte is real and their existence is proof of that. So in order to pay back all that she has given them, they must uphold good morals and make the world a loving place that their Creator would be proud of.
Personal Hypothesis: René believes that marionettes were created so that the Creator could share her world with them, and that they are born from this happiness and dream. He also believes that each marionette is loved and holds a place in Charlotte’s heart.

Past: Since the day Athanase awoken in those disgusting plain male attire, without a single frill or gold lining to be seen on it, he promised himself that he would strive for the riches he desired. He had awoken in what seem like an abandon and poor-maintenance cottage. Over the next three years, he had been learning to gain wealth through conning others out of their perles. He had become quite the deceptive expert, able to change his voice at will, performing a deep gruff voice of a warrior one second and easily changing to the high pitch quality of a child the next, with as smooth as a transition as one could wish. In addition, he accumulated multiple disguises that he used to perform his trickery and continually updated his personal wardrobe with outlandish clothing. He still was sectuerless and loving his life that was until the incident occur that faithful day. The con backfired greatly that day and the consequences were devastating. Even though he robbed people blinded and didn’t give a second thought about it, he never meant for anyone to get seriously injured.
The failed con was the final con that he ever pulled. His target was a wealthy lady, who in addition, with The concept of 'family' had parental figures who accumulated a large dowry for her. His plan was simple, court her and win her heart, earn everyone's trust, get the money handed willingly over to him and just flee in the middle of the night. However, the lady discovered his plans somehow and wanted her revenge on him. So she wrote a letter to him telling her to meet at a particular spot, in preparation she made a life sized clay figure of herself, painted and clothed to resemble every detail possible. She was on the top of the cliff with the figure propped up, she made sure the place she had written down was some distance away from her location, close enough for her shouts to be heard but far enough that he couldn't cross the distance quickly.
When he came to the meeting place, she lashed out and wailed her woe, and in the end, saying she wanted to kill herself and pushed the clay figure over the edge. Just as she had planned, he didn't make it to the bottom of the cliff until some time after the clay figure smashed into the group and the shattered sound rebounded in the surrounding woods. She hid in the forest and took satisfaction is his agony, whispering under her breath,"Serves you right."
Athanase really believed that she committed suicide. He painstakingly gathered each piece in hopes of apologizing and returning it to the family, but they suddenly disappeared, so he made a small grave for her, promising to visit one a year.
After that, he went back to the old cottage he had left three years ago wallowing in despair until one day he overheard a voice talking about this certain sectuer of love and morals, “La Moralité et L'amour...” He repeated the words and let them roll over his tongue. Maybe he could seek redemption here? He wanted to put all this behind him and wanted to devote his life to helping instead of harming. The weight of his sins seem to crash over him and rested heavily on his shoulders, almost knocking the breath out of him.
So that is how he met Lucien and changed his appearance, cutting off his hair, dying it from green to turquoise and wearing the clothes that he first awoke in. All the material wealth that he accumulated over his three years he moved to the new house and they sit in the basement untouched, serving as a gruesome reminder for himself.
Now that he is out of the house, he had many years of isolation which result in his dulled social skills and he tries to be as care-free as possible. Living honestly and bluntly.
The reason why he fell in love with Nadia at first sight: She resembled that lady from his past. Rene had tried to spend eighty years putting his past behind him, but when he saw Nadia it was the guilt from the past that elicit strng feelings that he took as a love. It wasn't until later he figure out the true reason.
