I got this ending too because even after what he did, I still felt extremely sorry for him. It is clear that John felt victimized so I sided with him the whole time. He was right to stand up to the Agency. They are all corrupted. I am actually interested to see how his vigilante arc will be.

It's interesting because in contrast with Harley he will not hold to his standard John self, because he feels he is nothing, he's a person with an extreme need for attention and validation, and seeing the extreme personality that is Batman he will inevitably gravitate towards him, being by becoming his arch-nemesis... or by becoming Him.

I totally agree, the way Telltale has flipped the Harley-Joker dynamic. John is the tragic, lonely, victim, and Harley is the mastermind. I was hyped by the ending I got with John, and super interested in how the story will change based on who John becomes. I've always loved Telltale games. They've always given us really interesting stories. Even in things that I've never been wild about, I still enjoy playing. Like the Walking Dead, Minecraft: Story Mode, and of course, Batman.
Have you played the game? I know a lot of people that are staying updated by watching walkthroughs, lol

Well, you CAN get him to become your archenemy simply by not siding with him and breaking his heart.

Yeah, I feel so sorry for him. Even tho he's done horrible things, the game makes him SO sympathetic. I couldn't let him go back to Harley, she's so terrible for him. Which is a really interesting flip from the classic Mad Love we've seen before. Like, how Harley is the victim of abuse and is kinda an anti-hero, in Telltale's game, John is the victim. I hope they do something interesting with him being vigilante, I'm curious how the story will change based on what John you have, vigilante or villain.

Finally, our choices matter. It will be awesome getting back at the Agency. It is clear that they are corrupt. John may have some extreme techniques in taking them down but I don't care. Whatever it takes to keep him on the light side.
Also, you're right. It was awesome seeing the whole role reversal between Joker and Harley, with Harley more of the physical and emotional abuser and Joker the victim and kinda anti-hero. However, I am sure that if you break his heart and turn him into the villain, he will be calling the shots and being more dominant towards Harley. Which to be honest I would love to see because I hated seeing Harley treat him like that.
And I'm pretty sure the villain path will just be your generic Batman vs Joker story. I got a feeling that the vigilante path will make John a lot like the Jester in Crisis on Infinity Earths, if you've ever seen that movie.

Haha! My siblings and I have a inside joke about that. I've actually never played the first season of Batman, so to make sure I was prepared for season 2, we read the wikipedia episode synopsis. There were SO MANY TIMES the paragraph would say, you can do this, or this. REGARDLESS, this bad thing still happens. It became SO funny. Everytime it said, regardless, we'd burst out laughing. So now, we use it as a joke. Lol!
I agree, keep John away from the dark side lol. I really curious how the stories will diverge. You often see in video games, especially telltale, where something big will happen, but your decision doesn't actually change anything. The story is pretty much the same. Like, you can either make a character turn evil, or convince them not to be evil, but someone else comes in and turns them evil anyway. So it's the exact same thing. So I started to think about the best way telltale could have the story change based on who John sides with, but keep it relatively the same so they wouldn't have to put in a crazy amount of extra work. I got the idea of Batman teaming up with someone to fight the person who teams up with Harley. Like, if you don't betray Selina and have John join Harley, then you and Selina have to take them down. But if you betray Selina, and John betrays Harley, then you and John have to take down Selina who breaks Harley out of prison. I'm not really sure how it'd work completely, but it's just interesting to think about.
I'm really glad that the story doesn't seem to be forcing you into the typical batman vs joker story. I really didn't want John to completely change personality and become your enemy. So I was happily surprised with vigilante Joker. But you know, we have a whole other episode to wait for, so much can change. Please don't let me down, Telltale!!!
Also, at first, when I found out about the John/Harley dynamic, I was kind of upset. It just bothered me that they took a character like Harley, who so much about her is that she's a victim of an abusive relationship, who learns to love herself and leaves the abuser, and then made HER abusive and her abuser is the victim. I just couldn't get over that. But, I've let it sit for a while, and I've played all the episode up to date, and I'm okay with it now. We so rarely get relationships in things where it's the guy being abused by the girlfriend, so I like how much the game goes into how bad Harley is for John, and how you can support him and convince him to leave her. They're their own characters, with barely any connection to the animated series or the comics. So, I like it. John's too good for her!
I've never heard of the Jester, what's that character's deal?

Yeah. It really became annoying. Like in the Walking Dead, I really thought there was a way
to save Lee. Nothing. In Batman Season One, I thought that siding with Harvey would prevent
him from going insane. Nothing mattered except Bruce didn't get layed with Catwoman. That's it.
Also, how can you not want to side with John? I actually heard his voice when he killed those agents.
He was terrified and afraid of being shoved into the darkness. It's clear that he knows the REAL Joker
is trying to escape. The monster inside of him just needs John a little push to finally be free. It's also
terrifying when you actually think about it. So when you say, "What did you do!?" He freaks out.
Also, how can you not want to let him keep his selfie, the batarang, etc. He was just so adorable! :3
Now I won't lie, I saw some footage on John's full transformation into the Joker and there's no denying
that he just looks like a badass. I just prefer him working with Batman like a Joker/Robin.
Exactly! Many people just laugh at guys when they admit they're being abused because according to
natural law, men are supposed to be the strong and dominant ones in the relationship. It's very easy AND
common for a woman to be abused. So Harley was a perfect example. However, having a guy fill that role
only made for a better story. John always loved Harley, no matter how bad she treated him, with her either
seducing other men, pushing him around and giving him one giant slap to the face resulting in a bruise. I
just want to give John one giant hug to let him know he doesn't need her. Just like how Poison Ivy is always
trying to convince Harley to leave Mr J and be with her instead. It's really well written - the abuse arc - in
this game. They also did a good job at covering up Harley's origin story since her whole existence was because
of the Joker's manipulation. I know in Suicide Squad, the Joker DOES show to care for Harley - which I
really think was not right - but that's just how her origin has always been. When she sees Joker, she see's
the man who was a victim of his father and the Bat. However, when he freaks out on her, she sees
darkness. The man she knew had gone. But when she gets very submissive and terrified, the Joker would
calm down and fall for the lie all over again. However, seeing the situation changed, Harley has her origin
rewritten. Now, while I do still think it is a cliche origin story - you know, with the whole tragic backstory
twisting you into a villain thing - it was still a clever way to make up for her original origin story.
The Jester (or the Jokester which is his original name) is exactly what you would think he is. He is the good
counterpart of the Joker. I don't know if we're allowed to do this here but here is the best version of footage
I could find in the movie I mentioned: www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGxqgx…
The funny part about this version is that later in the film, we get more ideas on what his character is. His
version of the Bat Cave is known as the Funhouse and his sidekick is a little monkey named Harley. Cute.

Lol, yeah. Except, not even. Because based on the options I clicked, my Bruce didn't sleep with her, and they parted as enemies, yet the game still treats them like they were a couple! I didn't want her! But the game was forcing her on my Bruce!!
YEAH SAME! I waited and listened to what John was saying in the fun house! There's a theory I saw on tumblr, of that John didn't actually kill those agents. The list goes into it more, but it's basically because he says that Harley is there, but she bolted, and if John shot them from behind then why is he so bloody. Also, John's choice of weapons is knives, like with Zsasz & Waller, or blunt objects, like the crowbar. Here's the link if your interested. countessbatman.tumblr.com/post…
Also, there was NO WAY I was going to be mean to him! I only played the game for John!! I was gonna be nice to him! What monster actually destroys his phone or doesn't let him keep the batarang. Poor jonnyboi. Let me be the Poision Ivy to John's Harley Quinn!

I agree. I guess even under strain, Bruce and Selina are always cursed to be together.
Thanks for the link. It will be great to go further into this. Poor John is a victim.
Also, why would you destroy his phone? It's clear that Batman is a role model to him.
If Batman did that to me, I would have my heart crushed and want nothing more than
to kill him. Just like how Electro was in that terrible Spider-Man movie.
