3”x4” Pencil sketch colored with Painter Classic. This was supposed to be just one panel in a 2 page comic for Captain JLS’ Roboblog comic contest, but considering how long this one panel took, I’m not so sure I’ll actually finish even one page. Painter Classic is probably not the best choice for coloring a comic, but I wanted something artsy and Photoshop wasn’t working at the moment anyway. Since I’m pretty happy with the result (I usually don’t do digital art), I thought I would share.This scene takes place about a decade after the Invid invasion of Earth (about 2042). An Invid scout flies high above a crashed Zentradi ship (one of thousands that still litter the surface of the Earth) surrounded by humble farms.

yeah I realize that, but its the same sorta staged setting i think his battlecruiser had a few more yellow tanks alog the chassis. but even though the 3 series had nothing to do with each other originally its interesting to see a zentradi destroyer wreck in in the invid invasion.

That's a pretty awesome piece! The farmhouse in the shadow of the Thurivel Salan is a nice touch... it just has a real feeling of portraying Robotech's generations of war...

lol true - although in the novel continuity, Breetai was a miner, so maybe being a farmer isn't too far off

Ah, did you first catch it back in 85 too? I’ve been a fan ever since although I haven’t really done that much fan art. I do have some hilarious drawings back from when I was around 5 years old that might count as fan art. I’m pretty sure the amorphous green blobs were supposed to be Zentradi ships
As for the comic, I don’t want to say too much because it looks like Captain JLS is extending the contest deadline, so I might be able to finish in time to submit, but basically it was going to be a quick character piece on Rand – a kind of flash back to before he met Scott. Unfortunately, I haven’t the experience yet to really compress a story down to something that is both short and engaging (I tend to be more long winded by nature), so with a two page limit, its really going to be more of a set up for an unspecified adventure.

I haven't played the RPG in forever... it's probably one of the few games that could get me back into ye olde pen and paper RP. I basically just do the play-by-post stuff these days. I'd love to find a Robotech RP like that, too, come to think of it.
