Description Running this back through.Working on my Sopranos pic but not done yet so wanted to submit something.
Chances are you know Bakshi's work,he is the film director/animator responsible for the cartoon Lord of the Rings from the 70's,Fritz the Cat,American Pop,Wizards,Cool World,Heavy Traffic,....as well as his tv cartoons such as the new adventures of Mighty Mouse, the mighty Heroes, even Deputy Dog.He has worked with Frank Frazetta on a film called Fire and Ice.This is prismacolor on textured paper, and kind of a companion drawing to my Robert Crumb.
Check his website it is great...

Ralph Bakshi was a one of the Biggest, Maddest Animators Around. He was a revolutionary animator but its such a shame that he retired. But i heard that he was going to make a sequel of Wizards and collaborate in a Fire & Ice live-action Re-make (Man! That would be awesome)

I remember some Terrytoons, Mighty Mouse, the Mighty Heroes and James Hound, still fun to watch after all those years I also remember he worked also on seasons 2-3 of the 1967-70 Spider-man series and the last season of Rocket Robin Hood.

Indeed...all great. Keep hoping they will release Mighty Heroes officially....source versions on DVD would be awesome. I bought a DVD on ebay, but they were just copied from old VHS tapes.

Ralph Bakshi is a genius. I love how spontaneous and experimental his films are. They are among the best ever done in animation.

I have been interested is seeing more stuff from Bakshi because I remember his version of Mighty Mouse.
I appreciate seeing collages of this calibre to encourage me to see more of his vast work.

I would recommend Wizards for sure, that is my favorite Bakshi film, his work is dated but it is still great. The mighty heroes were his best cartoon...thanks. If you go to Ralphbakshi.com this drawing is on the front page,...well a little portion of it anyway lol.

choffman36 In reply to andynortonuk [2007-05-01 00:13:15 +0000 UTC]

I was in talks with Bakshi's daughter about making it a poster...we never did but I did give them permission to use it.

Well, that's pretty good. Maybe you could develop a poster on Bakshi for the sake of your interest in him.

Bakshi is one of my personal favourite animators since he has helped in making animation 'grow up' through the past 3 decades. The only problem is, his films are so difficult to get hold of and I really wanna watch 'Heavy Traffic' so badly! Awesome work!

So cute! I think the text at the top captures something that the rest of it is trying to express as well. But the whole thing is so neat and perfect. I like it a lot and I think that the colors in the monochrome portrait are beeeeautiful.

He looks a little bit like a manic Joaquin Phoenix. But I didn't see that Johnny Cash movie. Maybe Joaquin Phoenix looks different when he's manic than I imagine.

Thank you I always love your comments you always have something interesting to say...
I am pretty happy with it overall, and if you go to his website [link]
you will see it is a button on the main page...for community. They asked my permission, I was actually in talks with his daughter for prints of this and also making clay figures for them.
This was done on bright red paper,so when I did the the main portrait it was black and white, but the red seeped through in spots and especially on the original, made it more interesting then it would have been.
You should watch the Johnny Cash movie,it is a good movie no BS...
Thanks Kristina

Superb work Chris Hoffman. You are a true asset to the Ralph Bakshi Forum.

Excellent idea to put the animation all around him, and skillfully done too.

I remember seeing a clip of Fritz the Cat and it scarred me mentally.
