Description Ohhh, I love it when "movies" do this - HEATHCLIFF: THE MOVIE is justΒ a bunch of episodes from the 80's DIC series mushed together with new footage of Not-Garfield telling these stories to his nephews (who were totally in the show! Remember???). Even his nephews are dis-interested in their uncle's stories.

It's kind of a ripoff and utterly pointless by today's standards...but the movie actually made over $2 million at the box office, so I guess it made for a pleasant enough diversion for kids during the weekends. I'm just glad Garfield never stooped this low.

Yup. That pretty much says it all. Which is shame, because I think Heathcliff deserves better than this. My idea for a 'Heathcliff' movie would have him meet Riff Raff for the first time outside of the end credits, and they would go on some wacky adventure, and maybe save Westfinster from a rival gang of cats.

I've actually been looking up the people who originally released this lazy piece of rubbish to theatres. And boy what a story I found....
Basically, Clubhouse Pictures was a failed attempt by Atlantic Releasing at banking on the lack of kids films at the time by releasing something called "The Clubhouse Pictures Theater Network"; a yearly package of five films they produced/distributed/picked up for cheap which would rotate in no particular order in theatres, with a different movie playing each month, and ONLY play matinee performances, with little advertising. As you would expect, this garbage releasing plan led to the films bombing hard and Clubhouse Pictures going bust just as Atlantic Releasing entered Chapter 11.
The only legit good films they ended up releasing we're The Adventures of Mark Twain and an honest-to-god rerelease of Hey There, It's Yogi Bear!. The other films they ended up releasing (including this) were complete crap.
i mean cum on, who doesn't luv "GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords" and "The Adventures of the American Rabbit"

It's a mystery why DiC (Bruno Bianchi and Jean Chalopin) decided to do this? Though mind you if this idea came from Andy Heyward, I wouldn't be surprised, that guy was always about the money it would seem!

This was also distributed in a limited number o movie theatres by Clubhouse Pictures and they came and went very quickly.

I've heard of this. In ways I like to call this the original Evangelion Death and Rebirth.

Only Death and Rebirth attempted to tell the story of EOE in the last 20 minutes, before making way to "Tamashi no Rufuran".

As well as the berserker Unit 01, lots of black and red, text all around which kinda makes it look cooler for whatever reason, and Toji with the rest of the chosen children as if he was a regular in the series

Oh god, I remember renting this "movie". It was definitely a load that they tried to pass off clips from the TV series tied together with a loose framing device as a movie, but I was into Heathcliff at the time (both the comic and the cartoon series) and that was the only thing Heathcliff-related in that store. But yeah, at least Garfield didn't stoop to this level.

I noticed the drawing still had some of the sketch lines. Was this an artistic choice or something?
