Though I try to keep my material as timeless as possible, I'll give in and draw whatever's hip and with it every so often.I mean....wombats are cool these days, right?

Of course they are! All the kids look up to them nowadays, don't they? I'm sure you if went to an elementary school and asked most of the children what they wanted to be when they grew up, they'd say "When I grow up, I want to be a wombat!"
In all seriousness, I totally understand you not wanting to include lots of contemporary references in your work (that's a great way to date your work in a hurry...I mean, if you use too many pop culture and modern day references, people ten-twenty years from now are going to come across your work and just go "...huh?! I don't get it!")...I try to stay away from modern day references as well (most references I would use are already outdated, anyways
