Description An F-22 Raptor from Langley AFB, VA makes a near-supersonic pass during the Cleveland National Air Show.

If you look closely you can see the expansion waves from the afterburner exhaust as well as some of what I'm going to start calling the Raptor's "beard" where the transonic clouds are just starting to appear. There's another shot from behind of this aircraft where you can see a second "beard" setting up but we didn't see the same effects with this jet as we saw with the F/A-18. No doubt this has something to do with the superior design of the Raptor.

Incredible pics!!! It's been several years since I last attended the Cleveland Nat'l Air Show. The main draw for me was either the Blue Angels or the Thunderbirds. I'm really impressed they had a Raptor do a fly-by!!! As to the B-17G, I've ridden in another one, "Texas Raiders" of the Commemorative Air Force about 12 years ago-(*it also participated at Cleveland). Makes me wish I had gone this year, ohh well!!! Thanks for posting!!!

Thanks again! Yeah, they're offering rides in the Yankee Lady a few weeks from now up at Port Clinton for $475 a person. Wish I had that kind of dough to toss around!

My ride on Texas Raiders cost about $360 back in Aug. 2000, it was worth every penny-(about 40 minute ride). I was able to access all the crew's positions-(cockpit was a bit crowded, LOL), except for the tail gunner's position. I ended up in the nose at the bombardier's seat coming in to land. I videotaped the ride from inside and it came out pretty well. A once in a lifetime ride for sure!!!
