Description

Commissioned artwork (2010) - © 4pi publications - National Geographic (Greek edition).

Illustration created for encyclopedia titled “History of Greek nation” part of the section concerning the uniforms and ships of the Ottoman empire navy force in Greece and Mediterranean world in general, for the period between 1800 and 1821 .The uniform research is based in “eye witness” color depictions of Ottoman marines made by 19th century European travelers. In fact a large number of reconstructed Ottoman uniforms from 16th to early 19th century published in modern military bibliography worldwide is based rather in such depictions than in museum material. The modifications in Ottoman military uniform through the ages are countless (due to a variety of reasons) and often the reconstruction and classification of such massive material has been proved a difficult task.
