I believe these are Soviet people, not Russian - the Big Red Star was a symbol of USSR.

ye of course, but when talking about nationalities there are no soviets, just russians - you would say "I'm 'from' Soviet Union, but I'm Russian"

You may say that, of course. But putting the BRS as a Russian symbol, as noted by me and other Russians a lot of times, just confuses non-slavic people (people of both Americas and Europe are somewhat confused, that's for sure) in terms of, well, symbols and difference between USSR and modern Russian Federation. If you know true information about Russia - good, very good, but if you don't, you're mindscrewed after such pictures (said with no offence to the picture itself or to its author).
