Description
So as promised to some of my friends, here's a happier character sketch of Benjamin and Amichai from my story The Unknown Martyr.This is what my characters would've looked like if they weren't sent to Dachau death camp.
The song in the background is a traditonal Yiddish lullaby, written in the Northeastern dialect, called "Ofyn Pripetshik (Pripetchik)" or "On the cooking stove" and basically talks about a rabbi teaching children the alphabet. It's such a sad/haunting sounding song, but very beautiful. Here's a link to the one I listened to-- [link]
What Benji is saying is in Hebrew, though, and reads, "I love you, Daddy (Abba)" because in the story he also refers to Amichai as like a second father.
I used both Hebrew and Yiddish to represent the interesting diverse languages of the Jewish culture.

Well, I'm not too fluent in it, but I know some stuff since Yiddish has Germanic roots to it, since I speak German But I actually had to look up the Hebrew

Italian is similar to Spanish and it can be easy if you have been exposed to a Romance language. However, the only thing that I struggle with is confusing certain Italian terms for Spanish terms and vice versa.

Oh we are, it's just smaller schools don't have as many language classes. For example my university only has Spanish. But at public schools like Madison at our capital, they probably have a whole list of different languages you can take.

I wish I could learn Latin or Hebrew....I think some priests learn Latin when they enter the Catholic church as practising priests.

I would LOVE to learn Latin! and you're right, there are many seminarians who are required to take Latin before becoming a priest, I can't wait to incorporate that into my next story!

Hahaha did you ever use it since you learned it? If you didn't then maybe that's why. My dad learned German when he was in college and he never used it so now he doesn't remember any German except for all the basic stuff haha
