---Call me a hopeless romantic ...

But I have found, in scripture, what is literally the most timeless, epic, beautiful love story ever written.

Now, I'm not into the cultic idea that Christ was married in the flesh. People like to dream it up for whatever reason, but it was never in any prophesy or gospel. Not one. I'm not expressing my own desired opinion; it just never happened! ... And for one, very good, clear-cut reason. The truth is this:

Isaiah prophesised --
"For as a young man marries a virgin, So shall your sons marry you; And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, Soshall your God rejoice over you." - Isaiah 62:5

And John the Baptist said this --
"You yourselves bear me witness, that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before Him.’ He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore this joy of mine is fulfilled." -- John 3:28-29

The apostle Paul made this comparison --
"For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body." - Ephesians 5:23

And John the Apostle was given this vision --
"Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, 'Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.'" - Revelation 21:2-4

... Even Christ compared Himself to a bridegroom in a parable which echoes throughout the gospels:
"The disciples of John and of the Pharisees were fasting. Then they came and said to Him, 'Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but Your disciples do not fast?' And Jesus said to them, 'Can the friends of the bridegroom fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as they have the bridegroom with them they cannot fast. But the days will come when the bridegroom will be taken away from them, and then they will fast in those days.'" - Mark 2:18-20 (This was fulfilled with Christ's ascension.)

So we see that Christ is the Bridegroom; and we, the true Church, are the embodiment of His Bride. We are the dwellers of New Jerusalem. That goes for every one of His elect! Can anything be more beautiful than that?

... But a word of caution. Will you be prepared when Christ returns for us? When the wedding feast is held, will you be present? There is one more parable in which Christ is likened to the bridegroom:

Matthew 25:1-13
“Then the kingdom of heaven shall be likened to ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Now five of them were wise, and five were foolish. Those who were foolish took their lamps and took no oil with them, but the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps. But while the bridegroom was delayed, they all slumbered and slept.
And at midnight a cry was heard: ‘Behold, the bridegroom is coming; go out to meet him!’ Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. And the foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’ But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, lest there should not be enough for us and you; but go rather to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’ And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went in with him to the wedding; and the door was shut.
“Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’
“Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming.”

... So, about the picture. It's a vision, of sorts, that came to me a few months back during a song in worship. The Lord constantly reminds me that I am part of the embodiment that is His bride, to which no earthly companionship or pleasure can even remotely relate.

Unfortunately, I waited a long time to finish this illustration, and so I've probably taken a few liberties since then. The couple (Christ and His Bride,) the filthy garb at the foot of the bride (forgiven sin,) the dove (The Holy Spirit,) and the throne were all a part of the original. The lampstands were also a part of it, and were quite like these, but I wasn't able to fit all of them in there. I couldn't tell you what all of it means.

Think about it. The similarities between what marriage should be and the relationship between Redeemer and redeemed. I would venture to say that marriage on earth was created and ordained from the beginning with this symbolism in God's mind?
