This guy is being used in a mod for Civilization IV named Fall From Heaven II: Rise from Erebus, He's a very powerful leader to play with. I really like this piece of art, good job.

Isn't Acererak a demi-lich though? If that's true then shouldn't it just be a floating skull?

I don't know what that means, LOL, but thank you I wanted to give him huge horns, but they didn't like it. Oh well hehe.

Acererak is probably the most famous Demi-Lich out there.
A Demi-Lich is a lich so old, powerful and impregnate with magic that he doesn’t needs his body anymore. So, his physical body disintegrates except for a little part (In Acererak’s case the skull) witch by meaning of a series of enchanted jewels becomes the lich medium with the physical world. Demi-Liches are faaaaaaaaar more powerful tan the regular kind and some even rival the deities.
All the pics of Acererak I saw till now shows just a floating skull with gems replacing the eyes an teeth, that’s why this pic is so special…
And considering he will become a floating skull is understable that they don’t liked the huge horns thing

Oh, ok. hehe. Yeah, that would explain them not liking my big horns..doesn't make it hurt any less though I don't follow D&D too closely, but knew this was an important image. I put a lot of thought into his outfit and tried to make him look as ominous as I could. He was fun to draw. Just has smaller horns than I wanted hehe.

Bah! That's not the spirit! You'll always be improving. Keep at it and there's no telling where your work will go. I'm 31 now and I still suck, so maybe by the time I'm 70, I'll finally be good enough to be proud LOL. Yeah, it sucks being an artist sometimes.

You come along and prove me wrong XD

Incredibly awesome, I look forward to seeing what else what else you draw for Dungeon Magazine

Thanks. The details are usually the fun part. The folds in his clothes and the wrinkles and creases in his skin. Stuff like that's always fun. Keep an eye out. I've done several other pieces for Dungeon recently and they'll be up here before too long.

Holy chimichanga, now that's REALLY detailed, most impressive. Tough, is it just me or the colored version has his eyes more wide-opened?

ChristopherStevens In reply to Haeeryu [2008-01-26 18:01:20 +0000 UTC]

Thanks. I think it's just the color. I don't think he changed anything. Maybe the glowing effect makes the eyes pop more. He nicely shaded the sunken in socket too.

dude your style is sooo clean and crisp, dya ever try working with shadows and spotting blacks, or do u like the style just that clean? Or is that just what the job calls for?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChristopherStevens In reply to Mulv [2008-01-26 17:57:58 +0000 UTC]

Thank you. Yeah, I definitely love classic comic style art. My commissions are done that way to the best of my ability. Most of my freelance work is painted over though. That usually means, I need to keep the lines as clean and straight forward as possible. This job especially. They wanted a painted look, so thicks and thins in the lineart would've gone against that.

Very nice lines, and the colors I seen over them really worked with them.

Awesome.

I was trying to go old school. This is suppose to be classic D&D. I tried to draw in a way that the painted version would reflect the traditional D&D art. Thanks for the comment.

No inks. The publisher wanted a painted look. That means in the end, the lineart is not present. When I get that type of project, I go as minimal as possible on lines.
