Description Woo! Dragon! It's been too long.

I've been thinking of starting on a set of elemental dragons... And, I mean scientific elements, not the classical ones.
This one is the concept associated with Hydrogen. It's the most common visible element in the universe, primary fuel source for stars, and the main component of nebulae.
The nebula wings were my favorite detail to work with on this one. I thought of adding more spikes and other detail, as well as the MSDS data sheet, but I think there's a value in keeping some things simple, too.

Helium is also quite common, but that may be something for another time.

I'll probably jump around, and start with some of the most interesting elements, instead of go in order. I think this project might be a good source of inspiration and good practice using information to develop the characters and scenes.
Downloadable in 5K resolution. Enjoy!

Awesome. I looked at this for a few seconds, and then I thought, "It looks like that dragon is about to do a KamehamehaΒ wave." Now I can't get it out of my head.Β

I think you're going to understand:

"When they told me that, I just... wanted to leave that place as fast as possible, and I left. I went to the skies without any certain end, only thinking about what my parents told me about myself just minutes ago.

The days after the incident, I was only in the space creating and destroying little points of light like stars..."

When I saw this, I remembered Kelios , I swear Β (even if we both know we aren't speaking about the same dragon... Β )

Very awesome work!! Β Β

I wholeheartedly approve of the idea to toy around with the Mendelejev's table of elements in lieu of the popular medial elements (relevant)

(what's MSDS data sheet?)

Thank you!
MDSD data is usually summarized by a little diamond with numbers that indicate health hazards, fire hazards, reactivity, and other specific hazards.

I used to run into them all the time, while doing engineering things.

Its good to see dragons from you again. You make some beautiful ones. This is no exception.

And those wings... eh gad those wings! The are downright awesome!

i also like the whole concept of elemental dragons, be an interesting series. then again, there is another type of series I think you could make amazing too

This one was really fun. I've been working on some sketches, to continue on with this art series.

I can see that working well.

When making this one, I listened to the last boss theme from Drakan 3, several times. www.youtube.com/watch?v=ph4f06…
It's actually just a memorable part of my normal art playlist, and not something intended to accompany this, though.

It's good to see more art from you again!

This is really pretty. I love the colors. I didn't quite catch that the nebulae were his wings, though. That's a neat concept.

I like the idea of real-element dragons. Can't wait to see what you imagine up for them all!

Thanks!
It'll be a fun project.

I like magical energy wings, in general... So, the nebula wings were fun to draw.
In the initial sketch stages of things they were more solid, and I think looked like clearer wings, but I made them more nebulous throughout the process. I think they're more interesting and unique this way, but... they aren't quite as well defined.

Also, That XKCD comic is fun.
I've like the idea of using scientific elements instead of classical ones since the characters in the Adventurers! webcomic found the elemental relic of Lithium.

She looks like someone made the fatal mistake of enraging her.
I like where you're going with this idea. Will you draw each element separately or some of them together, like Oxygen combusting Phosphorus?
The lighting on her scales is impressive, and those nebula wings are amazing. I don't think I'll see another dragon this arcane in a while

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Chromamancer In reply to Garvado [2016-02-22 15:34:38 +0000 UTC]

Thank you.
Those nebula wings were a really fun idea to use.

I'll probably focus on one element at a time. I don't have them all planned out, of course, but if I draw something like Oxygen and Phosphorus, I'll focus on one of the two, and make another piece for the other element.
