Following the destruction of the Oni Queen at the hands of Naruto, the twelve ninja who had been corrupted by the Oni Gems were miraculously resurrected to life, although they would never be quite the same again. They retained all the powers of the Oni but were now totally freed from the darkness and greed of the Oni spirits. What's more, they were now permanently bonded as sets of Twins, nearly-immortal teams who would shape the Ninja World for ages to come.

Now that they had their souls back, the Oni Twins felt quite a bit of guilt at the ordeal their desires had inflicted upon their comrades. After a great council, they decided that they should go their separate ways and live in separate lands, so that they would neither be tempted to battle with one another, nor form again into the Oni Queen, should their the greed of the Oni spirits return...

...there really was no question which Village would be guarded by Tenten and Temari, since Temari was the only one that hailed from there -- added to the fact that her sandy form needed to replenish itself occasionally. Thus the Sand Village gained two of the most steadfast and drama-free guardians of the twelve Oni.

The pair is a bit different from the others, as their bodies are inorganic and draw strength from the earth itself. They each have some very unique abilities, as well; as a plume of sand, Temari's range of motion is immense, and Tenten -- rather than drawing weapons from a scroll -- can now form them from her own body, although she does tire of being used as a living armory.

Their distinct natures come with some difficulties, however. Temari, always feeling the pull of the vast desert, has to resist the urge to merge with it and become one with the vast expanses of sand. Tenten, being solid metal, can sometimes be overtaken by a strange form of apathy, and will sometimes stand in place like a statue for days on end...

...as a result, they spend almost all of their time merged together as Tentemari, which stabilizes them both. As the years go on, it becomes more and more rare to see them separate. In time, they might forget how to separate themselves, and remain together until the breaking f the world?
