Was it rejected because the character was anime or flat?

It's an incredibly interesting work. She seems to be lost in a sad, empty world and is following the stream of stars, yet out of sight behind her they fall to her level as she passes by. The falling stars create the shape of a cold front suggesting she's walking straight into a cold headwind, and she wears a shawl for warmth and comfort that is purple, perhaps signifying her devotion to the path she's on. She also carries an umbrella for emotional security, protection from being taken down by the stars she follows. Her placement near the left edge of the composition creates a feeling she's being dragged back which is emphasised by the slope of the stars and triangle formed in the lower half, and the stride of her footsteps are uneven, showing that her path is difficult and unstable.

To me it signifies the human tendency to seek inherent value and meaning in life, the human inability to find any, and the human spirit to live on in spite of that. However, her pursuit seems to be shallow as the stars she follows only represent fame and success, a common problem amongst today's youth who grew up in a quickly progressing world that demanded accelerating expectations from them. Her being alone is suggestive of the peril of too high standards, in that working so hard for success there is no time left to socialise with others and find a deeper meaning in life.

Taking a look at your other works I'm not so sure this much was intentional, but whatever inspirations that prompted this work I hope you keep listening to them.

Thank you for the lovely comment

It was rejected because of the anime character..

This is actually intentional because the brief of the project is about a manifesto about ourselves in the design world.

To me personally, it's just exactly like what you've stated. But they still didn't accept it, and they told me pretty cruel stuff too, which I know might be true depending on how things are.. But I kind of realised a few things after the rejection, like how I don't want to step out of my comfort zone, how I barely put a lot of feelings on some of my works.. and how stressful it is when a lot of things are falling apart at the same time..

Thank you for understanding this piece really deeply.. It meant so much for me

You're welcome. I'm relieved my observations were correct. You have a sprout here as fine art. I've been trying to bridge the gap between high art and subcultures but have had no success yet. Takashi Murakami took a good run at this goal curating A Nightmare Is A Dream Come True but the works, while interesting and skilfully executed, fell short and consequently have gone ignored. This work succeeds in being accessible, vulnerable, sincere, earnest, original, and thought-provoking, all at once.

If you have time I'd love to hear how you came up with it.

“The phrase ‘all your dreams will some day come true’ has led us into a world of nightmares,” - Takashi Murakami

From the text, the quote above really strikes me. But overall, I guess some works are slowly being ignored due to the changes through time? like some people began to fell out of love to it etc. But nonetheless, people did not stop creating and improving. We all practice and tried our best in each works, but most of the time (or at least in my experience in university currently) they didn't seem to appreciate anime/manga related works? Like a tutor kept on saying to one of my classmate (and me) that we shouldn't do those styles and try out other styles which are more appealing to others, like realism etc. Sometimes when I think about them, it was as if they are crushing our dreams. I know it's good to try other things, but at the same time, I'm thinking that they shouldn't have forced people or say that some style are bad etc. Then again, I don't have the right as well to say whether they are right or wrong...
