I think you need to read what Cleave and Great Cleave actually do. One opponent is not enough. Also why Satan the guy you go with for a D&D player?

I tried reading the books first but the best way for me was just to dive right into playing and learning as I go. Lucky for me my first DM was my friend and he help teach me. It's been years since I started playing. But I still remember that first campaign. Ahh the memories ^^

I wish I could get a group in my area. NO experience and neither does anyone else in the area. Playing by 3.5 rules so it alittle... weird trying to get started. Finally, found ONE with experience. Plus my dad surprisingly. O.o Never would have guessed considering he was one of his highschools star football players XD

It took me 2 hours just to compleatly read and understand the info on Humans and Elves (I was making a new character and I'm usually a Dark Elf.) Pain in the ASS.

Yes, yes they did. But bards will be coming back. So will gnomes, I believe. In the player's handbook 2.

I've never played a character that would be able to use great cleave. I usually play rogues. And now, in fourth edition, I play warlocks.

MeMyMine In reply to chuggy-mo [2008-09-02 07:05:39 +0000 UTC]
In 3.5 I play a Barbarian Blackguard, he's totally up to those kinds of attacks, doing most of the stuff with a big axe and all. The other player in the party was a wizard so he really needed someone to tank for him.

chuggy-mo In reply to MeMyMine [2008-09-13 19:09:42 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I usually played a rogue or a druid in 3.5. They were my favorite classes. Now they got rid of the druid in 4th and I'm sad. But they did bring in the warlock which is awesome.

MeMyMine In reply to chuggy-mo [2008-09-16 19:29:24 +0000 UTC]
I think they're planning to get some of the missing old classes in a supplement . But it's a shame there are no bards or druids. My blackguard and the other player's wizard had levels in (respectively) bard and druid too. The roleplay aspect was cooler. In fact my character had levels in bard for the sake of the roleplaying, cause when I made him I was thinking "what DnD classes correspond to his description and behaviour?" rather than what build is best. After all if one wants hack and slash then one can play games like Diablo. I'm saying that cause I haven't tried 4th edition yet but I heard that there are less roleplay elements within the new system. What do you think?

chuggy-mo In reply to MeMyMine [2008-10-08 22:48:02 +0000 UTC]
Having played in about three different 4th edition campaigns and having made several different characters, the role play elements seem about the same, if not better than before. It honestly depends on the DM you have. One of mine has all kinds of role playing opportunities for us. Another one I have mainly focuses on the hack and slash. They're both good DMs, just different.

Shouldn't it have been a power attack? Cleave ( greater or regular... ) only effects subsequent targets after you've already killed someone with your initial attack. At least, that's by 3.5edition, I'm not overly up on 4th yet....
π: 0 β©: 1
chuggy-mo In reply to BrendanKeeley [2008-08-20 02:54:50 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it should have been a power attack...But yelling "Great Cleave!!" as you slice someone in half is so much more satisfying...
π: 0 β©: 1
BrendanKeeley In reply to chuggy-mo [2008-08-21 20:29:13 +0000 UTC]
Yes, but cleave ( Greater or otherwise ) is really only a suitable description for a slicing motion. Now, if the guy, instead of pulling out a sword and hacking his opponent, instead bashed him over the head with his 4th edition rulebook, then surely "power attack" would be the better adjective. I'm guessing this is mostly situation?
Also, since the guy in the cartoon is clearly new to Dungeons and Dragons, presumably he's reading the rules for the first time, cover to cover. Since Greater cleave only comes under "G", perhaps he hasn't made it thought to the "P" section of the feats chapter yet?
