The Hive has arrived!
Memori are finally being launched today, all of their lore and traits will be uploaded periodically throughout the coming months or so, stay tuned!
Short Lore :
'Deep within the darkest and most ancient archives of history a long-forgotten tale depicts a creature’s arrival from the stars above. No one knows where exactly She came from, but She was unlike anything early humans had ever set their sites on. Her skin looked as though it was made of porcelain and her hair weaved from the finest silk. With her lustrous appearance aside, she granted the early humans with the ability to remember, to associate, and to feel emotions towards their memories. Thus, they worshipped her for her gifts, offering their loyalty, treasures and the most luxurious food they could spare. The people referred to her as Mother, the Weaver of Memories.
With Mother’s gift, humans were able to advance and grow as a species. They were able to invent new things and prosper in ways that they could not before they had met their goddess. They abandoned their cold caves for wooden homes, using the abilities they received to document history, technical aspects, and pass down that knowledge to future generations. However, the more the humans advanced the less they remembered Mother who was to thank for their growth to begin with. Without the worship and help of her people, Mother withered and became a horrifying shell of her former self. She no longer was strong enough to retain her beauty and her body grew weak and thin. On her deathbed she birthed a small creature in her image from her chest. The first Memori awakened beside its ailing kin. Mother pleaded for its help and it obliged and sought out the humans that once worshipped her. Unlike Mother, the First Memori was born with a terrifying power which was the ability to remove the memory of those it encountered. With it, the Memori found its unsuspecting victim and extracted what would be known as an Evocation Pearl. These pearls contained a fragment of time… a memory of a moment that could be used by the Memori to survive. With a new offering available to Mother, she was able to gain enough strength to return from the edge.
Centuries later, it became common for humans to find themselves forgetting all sorts of things. Some were just simple, small things that were no real harm such as what they ate for dinner the night prior, where they put their keys, when their anniversary dinner is… all due to the mischievous Memori who steal and hoard memories from people who least expect it. The old are always prime targets since their memories are easier to take. Eventually it will lead to the destruction of the brains ability to retain any information at all due to the constant fiddling by the Memori. With the humans now running out of time, they desperately sought out an answer for their ailment. It unfortunately led to the rediscovery of Mother in their ancient and long forgotten history texts. The Goddess they once worshipped was now remembered not for her original gracious gift but as a wicked spirit, a Devourer of Memories.
To combat the degenerative memory loss caused by Mother’s creations the humans developed a special mystic journal that each of them must carry around. The journal itself became a staple in society due to each individual one being unique to its owner and filled to the brim with important information that would likely be forgotten immediately if that information was not written down. Those who lose their journals would be considered useless to society as it was a lifeline that allowed individuals to remain productive. Without it, the human would eventually forget nearly everything about themselves. Oddly enough only the ability to speak and to write is the only thing retained after losing one’s journal. Within the society of the Memori, a council was formed in charge of caring for Mother. The Highest Ranking Memori would oversee chronicling memories, fabricating them, manipulating them and of course feeding Mother. On the rarest of occasions ‘Lost Humans’ would be able to survive without a journal by making friends with a Memori. However, to be deemed ‘worthy’ of Mother’s gift was a whole different story and very few cases have ever been recorded.
New Memori are still birthed in this current day and age, each of with are born with Mothers Imprint. The Imprint is a special marking inside the ear which symbolizes their loyalty to her. However, on extremely rare cases, the Memori can rebel and sever the bond between them and Mother. When this happens, the imprint is neutralized, and they gain a symbol that is unique to them and identifies them as a rebel. No Rebel Memori share the same markings and is an expression of their ideals. It may also hint to their personality. Rebel Memori are ostracized by the council and their society as a result of their decision to dissociate and are usually never accepted back into the Order. Thus, Rebels are usually seen with humans, trying to find ways to either go against Mother or to forge their own path.
