Description
Male Chestnut-breasted Malkoha Phaenicophaeus curvirostris, one of the sweetest and simplest (not to mention most pampered) birds I work with. He likes all his food to be handed to him, twice a day. Chestnut-breasted Malkohas are carnivorous members of the cuckoo family. Male Chestnut-breasted Malkohas have pale blue eyes, while female eyes are pale yellow to dark gold. The male will often carry around a leaf or other symbolic nest material in the presence of the female, particularly before soliciting copulation. Unlike most cuckoo species, they are relatively monogamous and both parents share equally in the work of raising offspring.
