Description The two nox corvids flew nervously through the pitch black sky, each bearing a rider.  They had traveled three days to a large stryx faire in the interior and were now returning to their coastal rookery post haste--news had come that one of Caraclie's older hens was eggbound and needed attention immediately.

Though they blended in well with the blackness, Yotoco and Fruitcrow would never fly at night if given the option.  They had poor vision in the dim light and were strongly dependent on their riders to guide them.  The chilly air also provided little lift, forcing them to expend more energy on what was already a long flight.

Caraclie peered ahead, scanning the forest for potential predators.  She heard a whoosh overhead and flattened herself to Fruitcrow's back.  Falakros on Yotoco looked up at the same time.

It was impossible to make out the form of the behemoth that flew overhead.  Cryptic pale patterns and a bloody red streak stood out against an empty black hole in the sky.  There was no moon or stars to illuminate its shape, save for two eerie twinkling blue dots that must be the beast's eyes.

"Go low" Caraclie whispered to her stryx, urging them into the canopy.  Better to risk the forest than remain exposed in the open sky.  Who knew whether the formidable shadow passing overhead was friend or foe?
