I like this alot... The greens are nice... but something seemed off to me. So I opened it up in PS CS2 and edited the saturation and lowered the yellow by 35 or so. And then burned in the shadows alittle. And liked that alot more... Still had the nice green but took away the "highlighter" effect the light was having on the top of the roots...

Try it maybe and see what YOU like... Gorgeous shot either way

here is a quick edit of mine...
[link]

I just toned down the yellow... Gave it a slightly cooler tone, but kept the greens which is what I liked... I think if I were to spend time on it I would give it a warmer look... Which is also what I liked about your shot, for it has a slightly over saturated look. Which most people dont care as much for...

But also remember that it is YOUR art hahaha. I am just giving my opinion of the shot. If you like it your way then don't let the masses bend your style...
UNLESS you want to make loads of money off your work hahaha. Then you generally have to make sure your work pleases the most people possible.

And your telling me you go by this every other day and you havent gone and reshot it?!/!?!?! MAN! I would be there like every day! hahaha. Trying different lightings and whatnot.

Are you a photographer by profession? Or is this a hobby?

Very impressed.. when i first looked i thought the changes to be very subtle but when i compared it to the original i was well impressed.. considerin you practically back processed it, its a truelly excellent job!.... alot easier on the eye, i'd consider it a fault of mine to saturate some of these images.. i def get carried away sometimes!!

Shucks.. slightly ashamed now of the original!)

Nope just a hobby.. a fairly recent one at that!

ah cool same here! I really got into the artistic side of photography after I busted my ankle up and was couch ridden and crutch ridden for 3+ months hahaha. If ya look in my gallery for my "Eye" shots. You will see some of my "broken ankle time" products...

Also your original shot isnt horrible... And something that happens alot, more so to newer artists... We tend to want to pump up the colors that extra bit. But at times it hurts the shot... If you watch those tutorials you will see many ways to edit photos, and also learn about leading the eye and keeping the eye in the shot... Many times a subtle change will really increase the quality of a shot... Like burning in shadows and dark areas of a shot. That extra bit of contrast can really make the pics POP out at ya.
Take care,
Steveo

!)... nothing like a busted ankle ta bring out the best in someone!!

Yea gotta agree with ya.. the temptation is always dare ta pump the last outta what colours ya got when more often than not the most subtle of changes can do it for ya!
