I'm not gonna lie, I get a hella kick out of that bastard child of fanfiction: the female Enjolras. Maybe because if Enjolras, asshole that he is, was secretly a cross-dressing woman, what kind of asshole woman would that have to be??? I have to say, I'm a die-hard yaoi fan, but I love, love, love the idea of pairing Combeferre with female Enjolras. They have such an interesting relationship dynamic, especially if he's the only one who knows that she's a woman. Him being a sensitive guy and her being a severe woman makes for a nice gender reversal. She's /so/ the pants in that relationship.
So I finally got around to drawing myself a female Enjolras. Though I have to admit, Combeferre came out a little weird and leering here.......Also, I realized that every time I draw lady Enjolras with a Combeferre, he ends up striving to boost his manliness somehow. Like, this time he insisted on bringing his pipe along. Maybe he feels emasculated around her.........XD XD XD

O_O maybe that's why Enjorlas don't want women at Caffe Mussain, a woman surely points inmediately that she is a girl dressed as a boy.

I think the entire notion of a female Enjolras adds far more romantic potential to the entire revolution and situation - and I don't mean that in the manner of relationships. Rather, I feel it is more fitting that she would be leading the group as a) she would be use to the society of the time putting her down, and thus acting adversely to it, and b) there is the then obvious comparison between her and Jeanne D'Arc: both righting for the right to a free France.
Even then if we are to mention the other meaning of romanticism, I too agree with your previous musings - and so eloquently you conveyed them - that it introduces a whole new dynamic to many of the shippings, especially with Combeferre, and new dimensions to consider the situations with. Overall, a very interesting take which I am sad there is not more of; each to our own guilty pleasure.

This is the first female Enjolras I've seen where she's still dressed the same and I really, really like it. I'm a huge sucker for androgyny. I'm with you--the E/C dynamic would be so interesting if Enjolras was a woman, and especially if Combeferre was the only one to know.

I never used to be into androgyny, but I think I'm coming around. 
And yes, totally--female Enjolras + Combeferre. (I say plus, not slash, since I'm not entirely sure they'd be, um, sexual. Perhaps, perhaps not--depends how wish-fulfillment-y we're talking here. XD But either way, sooooo much UST.) Really, he's perfectly placed to be her accomplice, since A.) he's already her closest advisor, so it would work well between them, and plus nobody else would get suspicious that suddenly they're hanging out a lot, B.) he's a doctor, so medical emergencies automatically fall to him, C.) he's a nice, non-threatening guy who she'd trust to not be creepy around her, and D.) he's super-serious about most everything, and quite loyal, and so could be trusted not to let this kind of secret get out either accidentally or intentionally. Oh yeah, and he's a raging feminist too. >.>
It's easy to see how nicely fem!Enjolras and Combeferre fit together by comparing them to 1.) fem!Enjolras and Grantaire, and 2.) fem!Combeferre and male Enjolras. The former situation doesn't really change anything in their relationship: Grantaire still loves Enjolras either way, and Enjolras still disdains him. (In fact, she probably dislikes him more than ever, now that he knows her secret and has "dirt" on her.) The latter situation is even scarier, since Enjolras, unlike Combeferre, does seem to disdain women, and would probably be annoyed that he was being proven wrong by a very intelligent lady.
Hm, as you can see from the above...um...essay, I have put some thought into this.

Not gonna lie - I can't tell the difference between female!Enjolras and Enjolras with all the clothes (except maybe narrower shoulders?). Which is probably the point. XD That does sound like a fascinating dynamic. I'm guilty of attempting some gender-switching, though not of Enjolras, and it can have interesting results.
