Description Well it apparently only takes the arrival of the New Year to get me to actually post something.

Basically, I want this to end up being Aayla walking through a forest floor late at night; possibly Felucia, if I can find an appropriate image. So far though it's just base colors and a lightsaber I threw together in about a minute. Hopefully I'll be able to keep at this and get some real work done on it, but to pull it off will be going a little beyond my comfort zone. I'm also working on writing a science fiction novel I've been meaning to do for about a year and a half. I'm just past 40k words, and...it sucks. Terribly, and utterly. To the point where I'm probably going to just start over (of course, I have a habbit to start things and never see them through to the end I wanted, but I'll try my damned hardest to actually stop procrastinating and finish this book). The worst part is, is that I should have had something close to a first draft by now; working on this thing for going on four months now with a limit of 1200 words a day...math just don't add up. Too many days of shrugging it off 'cause it's difficult to weave story-lines together while trying to keep from letting the pacing suffer, then while worrying about pacing, it leads me to worry if the characters are suffering due to the worrying, and so on and so on. All of this was bolstered by my being a Discovery writer, which for those who don't know means I don't work from an outline (can't stand the things; they take all the fun and work out of telling a story, in my experience) and just write, letting the story come as I go. But after letting it simmer for a week (took a week off for Christmas and New Year) I think I can fix at least some of it. It's depressing, because I just passed the 100 page-mark and I've never done that before, but life goes on, I suppose.

I'll try and work on this as I go. Also, I'll try and be better about updating more than every 4 months.

Oh, and of course:

EDIT: January 5th, 2011
First update. Applied most of the shadows and did the lightsaber hilt.

EDIT January 11, 2011
Finished Aayla. Now I need to figure out what I'm going to do for a background.

EDIT: January 13, 2011
I've scoured the inter-web for a usable shot of a forest at night...to no prevail. And I'm really proud of how she came out, so for the foreseeable future, I'm leaving it as it is, save for some possible tweaks to the background to keep it from being so bland.

This looks fantastic! The shadows look great and I particularly love how you did her eyes and lips. Nice job

Thanks. Again.

I've learned through trial and error that I'm just not good with highlights. No matter how many time I try and repeat, it always just comes out like smudged makeup. So, just stuck with shadows, save for the metals, which seem to be the only things I can apply some highlights to without cringing. As for the lips, I actually borrowed it from one of your pics. Wanted to try something new and I wasn't satisfied with my three or four other attempts.

I knew those lips looked familiar!

It took a long time for me to get the hang of highlights and shade. Shine on metal was always easier to do. In fact, it wasn't until I started posting my art here that I really improved

I suppose...but its much simpler to give up and just do shadows.

Very nice! The colors for Aayla's outfit can be hard to match, but you've made them look how they do on the show. And the lightsaber looks great
