Description This is a gift for my Uncle Jim and Aunt Nancy who are -incredible- people (and that's an understatement). It's way overdue that I sent this token of my gratitiude and love to them but it took a lot longer to complete than I had planned. The original will be sent to them tomorrow <3

"First" attempt with prisma colred pencils. Not all that great but not too shabby for my first attempt (after my traumatic experience with them years ago) I may do a few more with colored pencils. I like how much deeper combinations of colors can be made with colored pencils rather than other media, I like the texture, and I like how portable they are (opposed to markers and my laptop XD) but they do take a longer time to work with and I'm a lazy person ^ ^; I guess they'll do for any piece I want to work on over a longer period of time in between classes and stuff.

Anyways, pretty happy with how this came out overall but I'd still appreciate some crit on how I can improve on my noob penciling skills/techniques for future colored pencilled stuff ^__^ thanks to anyone who can help! Also, Nytro Starfyre is responsible for the nice background.. I had to crawl to him for help because I suck at bg's XD sou, thanks again my kittun <3 <3 <3

*gaspeths* *reaches for the monitor to see if the girl is real* *blinku blinku*
omg it really is just a drawing OO I am so amazed with the amount of colours you've put into this, Like everything has so many different colours in it that make it look so much 'alive' and 'realistic' You seem to know what your doing no matter what mediums your using! Like i can see the kind of subtle purplies and yellows in the skin, my little brain wouldnt even think of using those colours for skin my brains just like "hey look peach pencil! skin is peach! yay!" But it works so well, it looks so expertly done =3 You must sure know your colours WHen i look at this picture i feel like *TALENT EXPLOSION* Hm, although the colouring on every part of it is like SUPEROMGWOAH the oranges seem so smooth and vibrant and make me feel all warm inside :3 Maybe you went a few more layers over that one to make it more smooth? Maybe go over some of the others with a blender or base colour pencil once more to give them that same effect? Maybe its just me SHe's so pretty! i wish i looked like that T-T heheh Oh! i love the flowers! and her hair! SO Shiney and LONG! And beautiful! I can see that this took a really really really really long time but believe me it was welllllll worth it! Your uncle and aunt will be so amazed and proud!!
Also, Nice choice of background
lol i'm gonna shut up now my comment is turning into an essay XD
You should really feel like you've acheived something! This is an all around wonderful picture ^^

myur, the technique of blending other colors such as purples, blues, and greens in with basic skin tones I have to blame on the art high school I went to. You learn that through observation really, tho.. like, if you look at the skin on your arm you'll start to see other colors than just "peach" or "tan".. iono, visual artist are just crazy and see into the depths of ordinary objects that may not be that deep in the first place (aka they're all crazy) heh, which explains pretty well why I prefer drawing to any other activity.. it's like translating thoughts and emotions down by the use of ordinary means and making something entirely different and meaningful, that something becomes a beautiful manifestation of a part of you.. that and it's fun to do when i get bored XD Arg, I'm sick in my dorm and missed out on my favorite class, Philosophy, so perhaps that's why my subconscious is starting to act like this.. please excuse me u.u I see what you mean about how much smoother the pencils look in the orange fabric as well as her hair because of the different strokes I used.. I think I will do that in the next piece I choose to color with colored pencils and I'll invest in a blender next time just to see what it looks like..
Oh, and don't apologize, dear, I love long comments -even when they're essays <3

That's a really marvellous job there. I can tell the traditional coloring on the character blends absolutely beautiful with the background, they look great together and makes the picture stand out a bit more than it usually would. You did a great job cinnamon, I'm amazed by the way you did this, I must it. Keep up the neat, yet marvellous job.

Oh my! This is amazingly lovely! The hair is marvelous and the pose really matches the pretty soft coloring. You'd think you were coloring with pencils for years. I guess you're just a natural. And that shade of green is very pretty. The colors coordinate so well. You rock out loud. Really you do. ^_^

well you have a eye for color. i mean, that's pretty obvious. your skill is there as well. now as far as techniques go...it seriously depends on the pencils you are using. prisma-pencils are great to use if you wanted to blend colors easily and smoothly...which is great for skin effects (as are prisma-markers). now i am a grit kinda guy. i love seeing texture and just about any colored pencil can create that effect, which is great for clothing. so you might have to merge the two to even further your technique or to get a different result, but i think the pic stands as a work of great art. nice job risu!

hmn, I don't know how to blend out colors with these colored pencils to a smooth consistency without putting a lot of pressure on the pencils.. although I love the rich texture of colored pencils (especially cross-hatched like I did in this picture) I wasn't entirely satisfied that that technique was all I was able to use in coloring this. I thought the cross-hatched texture would look nice with her clothes but I wanted a slicker feel to her skin while still blending all the colors I used. Should I buy one of those colored pencil blenders to get that effect?

devious-k In reply to cinnamon-kitten [2006-02-22 13:08:10 +0000 UTC]

eh...to be perfectly honest...i never use the blender only for the simple fact that it doesn't blend. i know that sounds crazy but seriously...they suck. i'm an old fashion kind of guy so i enjoy blending with the actual colors. but that's just me. you may have better luck with those than i do. lol.

Wow... Risu... I do not know where to start... O.O Guess I'll go from top to bottom!

First off, the hair looks gorgeous, with the different colors and the highlighting, it looks so subtle and pretty. And while I'm glancing, I love your lineart! It's so bold and it goes so well with the bold colors. I love the eyeshadow, very good green to use with the brown eyes and the lips which are a bitch to draw and color. I love all the different tones you used on the skin, all the pinks and yellows and oranges, I'm going to have to try that! I really like the ends of hair, how it looks REAL not animeish, more of a choppy cut. And I love the textures you made in the fabric and skin, it makes me want to touch the picture.

Sumed up, I love how you colored using more than one hue, greens and browns and yellows. Not only does it add dimension to the picture but it brings the colors used together so nicely! The only advice I can give, which you already have down well, is to layer, layer, layer.

anyways, I was going to say thank you so much for the huge comment, Erin! *glompage* also, thank you for giving me the courage to try prisma colored pencils again and for your advice to layer, layer, layer.. as you can tell I think i went a little overboard with the layering XD but still, I appreciate all you've done to help and encourage me <3 <3

Since I need more practice with colored pencils myself, can't help you much on the critique, all I can say is that your Aunt and Uncle will really appreciate this. How could they not! Be sure to let us all know what they say when they get it!

Umm, why that title? Really it was just the first thing I heard through my headphones as I was posting this. It's a song by Josh Groban and by random chance I felt like it fit. If I am correct, I believe it means "suddenly love" or "unexpected love" literally, smoothing out to "Love at first sight" or something like that. Iono *shrug* I just tend to type what I hear on occasion for titles..
