Description Hm. Okay. Definitely the piece that takes the award for 'most charcoal ever used on a single drawing... EVER.' All that black space there? Yep. It's really there. It isn't just some background I threw up.

I like this piece. Reminds me of ancient Greece or Rome the way the profile came out, save for the nose ring. Had to photoshop for slight contrast and to clean up a few pieces of that enormous blackness. Anyway. Hope you like it.

Charcoal on 90 lb. paper. 14" x 20". One day. Woot.

Oh! And for those who are wondering, that's a boy. Uhuh. A boy. Hence the title.

Original available for purchase. Note me for pricing.

For some reason, I really, really like his nose. Without that nose - this piece just - it wouldn't be right.

You're right about the Greek part. I can just picture him lounging on a couch eating grapes.

He does look like a bit of a mythical god. Or maybe an emperor... or someone who'd plot to kill the emperor. Glad you like it.

You should of added more definition to Stevie's face. He actually looks a little scary here.

Thank you. I'm glad you like it. (That blackness took a hell of a lot of charcoal. )

I really like this one too. It makes me think of David or one of those Greek/Roman pieces you see every now and again. The profile of the model I used is just stunning. I'm glad I could capture it and do it justice.

You're right about the whole Greek thing that it has; I think it's the nose and the expression he shows..

Very nice job though; I can not believe you actually filled that entire space up with charcoal.

cinquain In reply to Deemer [2005-04-13 16:16:34 +0000 UTC]

I have a stick of charcoal as big as a babies arm. It didn't take all that long to fill it in. It was the blending that took forever. That and the black powder that's left behind. I actually had to take the damn thing outside just to blow it all off the paper without turning my entire house black.

Absolutely beautiful work. I love the soft skin tones and the shading you've done - it makes it look all too real. My favorite part would have to be the eyes and the lips. Excellent work indeed!
