Description Tools: watercolor paper, glue, vellum, lots and lots of Xacto knives
Programs: AutoCAD, Illustrator 8
Project: School Project

another oldie...another school project...

This cathedral model was inspired by Notre Dame in France. (same as the next model picture, just a different view)

This is one of a series of 4 models that I did for a school project (I wont be posting all of them, only the ones I liked the most)

The walls were all cut out by hand is made completely out of rough watercolor paper. The stained glass windows were designed in Illustrator and then printed on vellum.

It also lights up, but I didn't take pictures of it that way because one of the lights fell behind one wall and it looks a little spooky...lol...some of my classmates and I called it "The Ghost of Notre Dame" 0_o`

BTW, its all white because the light and shadows were supposed to be the focus of the project.

That's really cool. My AP Art class is doing something similar that we have to do a series of four pieces of art. I chose to do models from Disney's Haunted Mansion. I think models are fun. I'm still currently even working on one still. Not late yet though.

It took quite a while, several weeks...

I would work on a layer at a time, and the paper was very thick. I use thinner paper now for projects like this because my hands hurt from holding the knife for so long. So It goes much faster now. I also try to work at a larger scale, this one is only about 6 inches (15.5 cm) tall. I didn't realize how small that was when I submitted the project plans to the teacher for approval...silly me...I learned my lesson now.

And, where do you keep them?? Don't the larger ones take more spaces plus you need to protect them from dust or weather stuffs, dont they??

This is one of two buit into one shadow-box (deep picture frame) so its under glass most of the time. I was not as happy with how the other one came out, so I didn't include it in the photo.

If I did larger, it would take up the who frame, but it would be the same depth so I could still fit it into a frame. ^_^

Wah! You rock! I've had experience making paper sculptures (which I call 'em) but they're not as good as this!

Oh I'm not much really. Just did a few back then for projects and stuff, and some pop up cards for family. But I was a kid then. Still, what you did made me want to try it again.

yay! I want to see what you come up with ^_^

I pop-up cards...I don't do the sculptures as much anymore, because I don't have the time. (they take forever) but I still do the pop-ups when I can.
