  There was a rustling of leaves and the fiat creak of branches as Shina traveled. The tree and rooftops had often been referred to as the Shinobi’s highway, at least by those in the profession, and their habit of using them as such came from odd fact that people didn’t have a habit of looking up, a pearl of wisdom her teachers had gone to great lengths to instill in her.
  Another valuable lesson was that anything worth doing was best done at night.
  So here she was, gliding over the arms of the trees, with only slivers of moonlight filtering through the canopy and her sharpened senses to guide her. Her search had started in the scattered woodland south of Kumatari, regardless of how cold that trail would have been by now. What little she could find all showed the same thing; the bandits had gone south. And if the information she’d received from her interrogation was even slightly accurate, then they’d gone even further south, passed the next settlement.
