This is a very disturbing photograph. Few things in the art world truly disturb me...i am kinda jaded when it comes to shock value in what i see. Still, i think every one has at least a little apprehension, if not a fully developed fear, of suffocation.
Personally, i have a fear...i have severe breathing problems. So, this hits close to home.
The color scheme is wonderful too. The shocking red in the back ground, subdued somewhat by dim lighting, seems to draw the viewer inside, to experience the dimness just before losing consciousness. The fingers bring to mind the 'clawing to get out' panic that takes hold in the midst of suffocation.

Yes indeed, suffocation is one of the worst nightmare
I like the lighting you used here, despite the linear shadow on the right arm (her left one) wich is a bit disturbing at first. The minerva/collar is a bit hiden behind her hand but it's a nice touch.
