Description i apologize profusely for not coming on DA for like an entire month (or had it been more??)
my excuse is that i am rather tied down with work. although i am working as a graphic designer now i don't really deal with my style of drawings so much (so far it is just cute monsters... it is fine as it is but i just dont get to draw pple as much... )
well this is actually a design for a character that my company is using for a triller game. her name is supposedly ashley cromwell. (i hope i have not violated any copyright laws...this technically is my drawing, but i am kinda a law-idiot....)
the tablet is easier to use now, and i just discovered a new way to use the smudge tool in Photoshop to make shading easier. hope i get to use it more often in the future ie. draw more haha.....

this is really cool. i like how she manages to match nicely with the backdrop of bookshelves, even though the styles of foreground and background are different. in fact, i like the bookshelves themselves. the whole things has a really great atmosphere (though i'm not a big fan of the name 'ashley cromwell' >_>.

very nice job.

I like her very much. She seems intelligent and interesting girl. I like her face a lot. So her dress
The light you gave adds so much "mistery" to the entire illustration

very nice. I like it, though I have some critique: Her shoulder is somewhat pointy, and the fingers look weird. They're too long and thin to be natural, but as someone noticed earlier, it could be a question of style. I just wanted to point it out because it strikes me the most here and doesn't really look natural to me.
You could also improve the eyes a lot more, they don't really fit into the rest of the painting. What bothers me the most about them is the pupils. They should always be in the centre of the iris and totally round. Yours are neither, they look like just quickly smudged in. It's not that noticeable from farer away or looking at a smaller version of the pic but in full view it's very prominent.
The sharp outlines of the face also don't really fit here, as the rest of the pic is done completely without them. If you want to i.e. set the cheek of from the hair... just shade the hair on the inside much much more than you did now.

Anyways, the painting is very nice and welldone.
I especially like the shading on this and the hair. And the candle! Though you also should put some blue into the bottom part of the flame to make it stand out a little more The face is also very welldone, the shading of the nose is very good I think.

thank you so much for your comments... yeah that anorexic look is almost my trademark... it's all the fault of ai yazawa 's influence(mangaka of Paradise Kiss, NaNa) who draws stick figures for her manga basically...i really ought to fatten them up....
and the thing about pupils.... I HONESTLY NEVER NOTICED...i assumed that with a change in viewing angle it will be more oval shaped? hmmm i gotta look into people's eyes more....
thanks for all the comments!!!

no problem, I just hoped you could use my comments

and there's no need to change your style if you don't want to o-O if you like your people thin, then draw them that way. I was just referring to how it should look like in nature
Actually, the first influence I would have assumed was Kaori Yuki. Especially the face of the woman in this pic looks pretty much Kaori-yuki-like. Which I like XD

Oh wow, you get to draw cute monsters as a job? *eyes widen* That sounds so fun! hehe!

Oh my gosh, now about the sketch, this is freakin amazing!XDD I really love the mood of this picture. The way she is positioned, the look in ehr eyes, and the background all seem to add up and point in the direction of this woman being fairly wealthy, smart, and almsot as though she is knowing something more than us. A certain secret, or searching for a certain secret, as the clothes folds sem to suggest!

I think the tone and colouring works great with this piece. A somewhat rushed looking shading really gives this a great feel. It gives us the impression of ever changing shadows, as one would expect with a candle around! ^__^ And on that subject, i have to say what makesme really love this piece is the way you did the brighter and highligted areas. I just love how those areas clearly stand out and emit an inner glow from your picture!

Also the way she loosely holds the candle is so elegant! Gah, i cna keep yapping on about this picture, bu i think i'de bore you to death!

However one thing i really have toi say is, i read someone above mentioned that they thought the fingers you drew to long, well im ehre to defend those fingers hehe. I dunnno, im not the most learned artist, but to me its seems that the long fingers are part of your style. You character here has a beautiful long neck, a long nose, slightly long head, long figure, thi beautiful body. All of which are completely unnoticible unless you point them about, because i feel thats your style. A beautiful long figure, plaving emphasis on such beautiful qualities. So i feel that if you go and change those fingers, you would have to change everything else. Which isnt good, because your styule rocks! And so i end rant here.

Anyhoo, cant wait to see how the game turns out, and i really hope you arent breaking any laws! hehe!

the job's fun, but it is strange trying to draw monsters when all that you have done all your life is pretty girls/boys... i am not really a monsters' person... oh well i managed to pull through XD
you interpreted the picture really well you know... whatever that you have 'thought' is correct! the character is exactly as you have described..... oh man you are really good....
and thanks for supporting me and my lousy art style... abnormal proportions are killers, and i shall make sure i make improvements to my drawings next itme...

That is a beautiful picture. You have done the lighting really nicely and it creates an appealing athmosphere. Maybe the fingers could use a bit more work as they look quite long right now. But that doesn't take anything away from the picture. (And I never get the fingers painted right myself unless I try a couple dozen times.) All in all, you have done an excellent job here and I find it hard to take my eyes off this piece. You are really good.
