Description The final part of Ice-brand and myself's series "The New Planeteers," here's Kwame all grown up from Captain Planet and the Planeteers. Kwame was the eldest of the group and came from an unnamed country in Africa.

I based Kwame's new look on various pictures of The Black Panthers; a black power group based in Oakland, California who operated from the mid 60s to early 80s, as it seemed to fit in with the story I had in mind for him.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

But in keeping with the rest of our series, here's Kwame's story:

As the Planeteers started growing up, some of them started to realise they didn't care so much about the planet any more and continued to go their separate ways. With only himself and Ma-ti left in the Planeteers, Kwame never really gave up and always used his powers for good.

Unfortunately, the "incident" with the young Ma-ti and Captain Planet was too much for them to take and Kwame decided to return home to his native Africa. With his Power Ring he found he could make a living as a farmer and used his Earth power to make his life easier.

However, unbeknown to Kwame, he had bought land right over natural deposits of diamond. Once the Government and their ruthless dictator found out about this Kwame was forced into slave labour and was made to use his Earth power to mine those diamonds quicker than everyone.

Eventually Kwame had taken enough abuse and along with some other miners, used the Power Ring to overthrow the dictator and take power himself. Life was good and Kwame treated his workers fairly.

But unfortunately power corrupts and Kwame became even more cruel than the last tyrant. To this day he continues to rule his country with an iron first and doesn't hesitate to use his powers against anyone who challenges him.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

So yep, that's all the Planeteers done now. The only one left is Captain Planet himself. I think you'll all be pretty shocked and potentially WILL rape your childhood memories of the mulleted eco-warrior.

I dig the hardened Huey Newton-esque look of grown Kwame, awesome work.Β Just one nitpick, the Black Panthers were formed in the mid 60's right here in Oakland,CA.

Thank you! Β I didn't really know his name at the time but I was working from a picture of Newton as inspiration. Β I've fixed the description now though, thanks for the heads-up.

Great work. You guys have done an awesome job with the series, and I look forward to seeing the Cap.

I love that you have created backstories for each Planeteer. My only criticism is that Kwame wasn't the eldest But, it's easy enough to assume because there's a lot of stuff on the net that suggests he is, but Turner publications gives us the Planeteers ages (if you're interested, their ages are Wheeler 17, Kwame 16, Linka 16, Gi 15 and Ma-Ti 12). Kwame has the maturity to suggest that he *should* be the older member

Still, these are just awesome. Any chance you'll write a fic? It would be most epic

Ahhh, I didn't realise that. I assumed he was eldest just because he was always first in the "Earth! Fire! Wind!" etc chant.

I'm not sure if I'll write a fully blown fanfic as it takes quite a bit of time and from past experience, fics don't get as much recognition unfortunately. That said, I did enjoy writing the back stories so maybe I could expand on them some day.

I have a feeling our take on the Captain will get me universally hated on DA as it's pretty dark. But thanks for letting me know the ages, it will help a lot in doing his story

No problem

To be honest, over on ff.net we are a fairly small fandom, but we jump on any new fanfic, so it'd get a fair amount of attention There can be a bit of wank in the fandom though, but there are plenty of us that love some lovely angst and some well thought out fics with original premises. I've also got a comm on LJ for CP fanfic, though we are rather few, but there is definitely no wank there We are open and accepting of all quality fic! I reckon if a collection of one-shots on each Planeteer would make a whole lot of us happy Haha, no pressure though

Meh, overall, who give a shit what everyone else thinks. If it stays true to your vision then that's what matters. The people that see it for what it's worth are the ones that count, and at the end of the day, if you're happy with it then that overrules all else Besides, sometimes it's good to shake up some controversy every now and then haha!

Well said.

I'll keep you posted if I decide to do anything more on the stories. I've got some full length (well full short stories) fan fics in my gallery based on The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy 7 too if you're interested. Sort of a film noir take on both stories.

I'm not much into Zelda (tbh I've never even played it!), but I might be interested in seeing your FFVII. Sounds intriguing! I have a friend that's madly obsessed with FFVII who would probably jump all over it.

Keep up the good work dude!

Thanks, if you did want to read it you can download it as a free PDF on my gallery - [link]

It's 51 pages but half of that is a comic I did to go alongside it.

My only question is, what was the "incident" that you mentioned, and is there any hope for these fallen heroes?

That's still to come. The project has taken a break while we both finish other things.

Oh cool, thanks I love the idea of an accompanying comic. I often wish I could draw comic style as the idea of drawing a supporting comic, or even a few panels, has come to mind as I've written certain fics. I'll definitely check the link out!
