Description
A commemorative painting in honor of Sergiu Nicolaescu finished on the day that marks exactly ten years since his death, with the title meaning "Sergiu dies either way". This is my artistic interpretation on one of his most notable works as both actor and director, the greatest scene in romanian cinematography and one that was dearly received by the people and thus became part of the folk. However I chose not to reproduce it as Miclovan, rather I went beyond and depicted the figure behind the character itself, as the name of the piece suggests.
In terms of physical appearance though I have never encountered such a demanding case. It was very hard capturing his likeness so I can understand why no one was able to get it right before, I myself had the hardest time with it. In a way he chose well when deciding to tie his name to the seventh art because he has a specificity so hard to reproduce that cinematography remains the only medium to do him full justice.
