Nope. It's gone, but I don't remember selling it. Weird, huh?
I have a boatload of house paint that I got for free from freecycle and craigslist (do you have those?) that I was thinking of getting rid of because I figured that style won't sell in Myrtle Beach where I am moving. Besides, I won't have money to have a bunch of canvases. I could use 24 x 24 wood from Home Depot, that's cheap, but where would I keep them all? I don't know, it's a tough one. They sure are fun to make. I love dripping and throwing paint. My "mentor", an extremely successful painter in Asheville, saw it and told me never to drip again.

I've heard of craigslist but I've never heard of freecycle. thats what i need more house paint.Really you don't think that style would sell in Myrtle beach? I think it might.
yeah i love dripping and throwing paint too. Thats why abstract is my favorite style. really your mentor told you never to drip again? why? your drip paintings look good.
I'll check his stuff out

I guess because it's been done so many times by so many people. He wants me to carve my own niche.
I am afraid that what I have heard and what my research has indicated is that people in MB aren't very cultured and prefer art with beach scenes and realism. Ugh.

i've never been to MB. so i wouldn't know.
but maybe you'll luck out and find people who like abstract.

I am hoping so, I am just not sure where or how to market myself. I wish I could afford a gallery near where the tourons (tourist morons - LOL) shop.
I may have to venture into Charleston, which is 2 hours away. Lots of money there. Probably a lot of competition, too, but you don't know unless you try, right? I have to build an inventory and a portfolio first.
Speaking of which, check this out:
How to Sell Art (Advice to Others and Myself)
1. Evaluate your work. Examine 5 β 10 of your most recent works and think of how you could have done them better. Ask an advisor to do the same thing.
2. Associate with other artists. Take workshops, classes, etc. Join a local organization.
3. Have passion about your work.
4. Produce a LOT of inventory. Keep track of it.
5. Decide on your target market.
6. Price your work with confidence. Be consistent. (Pricing by size is a good way to start).
7. Develop a marketing package. Business cards, brochures, postcards, an artistβs statement, resume, biography, a portfolio (the most important thing when approaching galleries). Keep the portfolio full of most recent works. Use a notebook with sheets where you can change out the images. Have a professional web site. (You may want to even include a podcast introducing yourself - people love to know about the artist they purchase from). Every piece of art work should have a digital image taken with a quality camera. You can make a shadow box inexpensively that will allow you to take your own pictures.
8. Participate in art shows. Get yourself out there.
9. Get on web-based galleries for more exposure.
10. Take the right approach with galleries. First check out the gallery to see if your work fits. Note the pricing. When you approach the gallery, introduce yourself with a smile and ask them to take a moment to review your portfolio. Leave a copy if they want you to. Get their name to refer to at a later date. Dress business casual. Carry actual samples of your work in the car in case they want to see them. Show samples of the size you normally do.
11. Keep a good attitude. Donβt get discouraged if a gallery does not accept your art. Keep trying!

It's a good book. Has a lot of practical advice, like sample bios and artist statements, etc.
You sell your art, correct?

well i'm trying to sell my art. thats one of the reasons i'm on here. I gotta paint alot more tho. once i paint more i'm gona be putting them up for sale. problem is where i live theres really no gallieries for me to look into. I could go to philadelphia and check the gallieries there which i might do. but i want to make more paintings first.
I'm gonna have to find that book. If you have any suggestions on how i can make my art better I'll be glad to hear em

Yea, finding a place is difficult. There are some "rental" galleries here.
I think the only problem with dA is that everyone's an artist so why buy someone else's work. I have had a few mouse pad requests, but I don't think I have sold any. I actually bought my own mouse pad because at my new place I plan to have a black and white office.
Do you have a web site?
The book:

It's worth the price.

Good point. I was thinking of getting rid of my house paint (I got a ton free through craigslist and freecycle) when I move in June, but I think I will hold onto it. I just don't know if it will sell.

Wow this is beautiful. I've always been a fan of this style, but since I have such varying tastes, that I like some, and don't like some. But I think this defines it.
