Description In a throwback to the 1950's/1960's, LMS Princess Coronation Class 8P 4.6.2 number 46233 "Duchess Of Sutherland" passes Rhyl Station West box working the return leg of "The Welsh Dragon" from Holyhead to Crewe, where a diesel would take over for the remainder of the journey. In their heyday, Coronations like 46233 would have worked summer specials and boat trains between Holyhead and London Euston sometimes non stop, along with the likes of the Princess Royals and Royal Scots.

i don't usually like the BR Green livery but i think the Duchess wears it well. She is such a beautiful locomotive.

Btw the Coronations are a 7P. (Has Hornby's BR City of Edinburgh next to me)

They were originally 7P, but later uprated to 8P, a far more fitting power classification for something capable of 3500hp

She's going across Cumbria twice over the next two weeks on the Royal Scot and the Cumbrian Mountain Express, and to Blackpool on the Fylde Coast Express, right at the end of June however she's heading the Scarborough Flyer from Tyseley to Scarborough. From there she's on anything of the Scarborough Flyer from Crewe to Scarborough, the North Wales Coast Express from Crewe to Holyhead, or the Cumbrian Mountain Express from Crewe via Shap to Carlisle and back via Settle. So Tyseley might be your best bet, dunno how good that is to you.

GREAT setting! Good use of the gradual curve at eye level!

Also, don't you just LOVE it when dark clouds bump up the color balance for your benefit? XD

Indeed, as if nature knows you've got good photos all day and thinks "I won't ruin it, here's an awesome sky"

Thank you for the comments
