how do you get the light fine hairs to show up in the darker areas? is there a method you use to do this?
Its been challenging me to find a way to do what you've done here...

Yes, there is.
I use a blunt-ended needle before I draw the dark area, I scratch the light hairs into the paper and then draw over it.

How can you make the hair look so realistic?!

It's done with a stump needle, I first scrapped the white hairs in the paper, then drew the other hair.
