brilliant expression. In a way I'm happy i ahevn't seen your work in ages because there's a massive leap in skill! or maybe just different mindset

I must admit that I don't understand your obscure comment! Would you help?

LutherTaylor In reply to ClairObscur16 [2015-05-22 13:00:43 +0000 UTC]

of course basically, because I haven't seen your work in a long time, there was a lot of work to see.
I could immediately see a difference in skill between what I saw last time, and recently.
it was like a smack in the face instead of a slow massage into how you are painting now.
I like seeing growth in artists.
so seeing it immediately makes me happy. so in a way "I am happy I didn't see your work for a long time so I could have the
pleasure of seeing your growth immediately"

Ah! I see what you mean! I'm not sure that there is such a "leap" in my works, because some are very old ( "Femme à la fenêtre "is 45 years old at least!!) In fact, the way I paint and draw is so "classic" that it's difficult to say that it's changing. My grand daughter Julie herself is posting all the works she find in my archives on DA: not always a good idea!
I'll be pleased that you sometimes comes watching my gallery, and so I 'll do with yours!

I'm flattered to be a "splendid example" !! My ego is swelling....More simply,my drawing way looks like this one because I'm old! Sad but true!

no older than the blossoms each year & there is a guarantee we all share (life's uncertain but death's for sure)...its a drawing reminding me of 18/19th century artists like Fragonard, Poussin, Gainsborough, Constable & others...well educated young ladies at that time were taught to draw like this...John Constable used to teach exactly that...to make ends meet and put bread on the table

ClairObscur16 In reply to merearthling [2014-05-14 08:32:31 +0000 UTC]

Ah!The blossoms each year....poetic:  uncertain life,   certain death...philosophic!
You are not as young as I believed. You are right about those artists, but remember that first, they were the photographers/reporters of their time. You must visit the Chalcography department of the Louvre: upsetting! A perpetual research to let a true iconography of this time. Not any esthetic concern - not often, at least. Earning some money, sure...

what does age have to do with living?if I died and came back to life how old would I be then? & what is Chalcography?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ClairObscur16 In reply to merearthling [2014-05-18 07:08:43 +0000 UTC]

I don't understand very well what you mean when writing :"I died and came back to life"...Are you a ghost?  Could you be more explicit?!!!
Not easy to explain what is the Chalcography! I don't believe that one could find such a collection in any country of Europ. At the XVIIe century, the king Louis XIV asked all the artists drawers to produce a sort of anthology of the
( French) world at the time, for every field of the life: botany, zoology, human body, medical , physic, chemistry sciences, architecture since the gallo-roman time, etc. You must remember that we have  not any track of the life during the past centuries because there were no journalists, no reporters photo, no cameras,no radio, no TV, no Internet..( imagine a camera filming Roma burning up!.)   Believe me: diving into this collection is really amazing( the  word is not strong enough!) As I'm a recorder player, i have specially studied the plates of the music instruments:fascinating! Everyone watching the L. de Vinci's Joconde at the Louvre would have to visit the Chalco , too.

i discover to day your last work: as fresh and light as usual! You deserve to appear in a Scottish...chalcography of our time!

I like the softness of the trees in the background , they contrast nicely with your strong line work.

I cant resist this kind of picturesque subject matter.
