...this train forever changed my train-aesthetic...
...linking history to art to ...?

The historical aspect certainly eclipses my artistic performance..I'm afraid.....

...no, not really, the train is very well-rendered!
...and that somehow enables a better historical aesthetic...

it is interesting that no one wishes
(or was able) to suggest
the obvious, eh, dear Claire?
I ignored the obvious
and commented on the picturesque.
Rather ironic, to say the least...
It will be even more ironic if you and I
are the only viewers that think of the obvious....
For me one defining piece of art
set in this mileau has always been
Louis Malle's "Adieux Mes Enfants"
....that title could actually be part of yours!

You and I are the only viewers... I 'm not sure to catch what you mean. Those who, in 1940 were used to take the "Train des Pignes" have probably disappeared, or forgotten the Story...

It does appear that we two are the only
sufficiently perceptive viewers, for now....
There are certain symbols of
certain times and places in history...
Do you like Lous Malle's film work?
I look forward to the next few days,
traveling from SF to Coarsegold,
and all the promise of that.

Oh! Yes, I like Louis Malle! "Au revoir les enfants", certainly, but "Ascenseur pour l'échafaud" and " Les amants" are his most famous movies, I think.
I long for news about the "Dowland" CD - if it isn't lost!

Did I ever send you a Dowland
solo Lute CD????

Has this CD be sent??? I don't remember having got and listenned to it... But I'm old...
I reviewed all my CD ( a lot) . Didn't find it. I must admit that some " visitors" often borrow my CD, and I never see them back...
I'm disappointed: I planned to listen to this lute music! I'm going to listen to Purcell/Morley/Tomkins' English Royal Funeral Music, which is admirably
suitable to my actual mood....

Please stop referring to yourself as "old"...
That's an annoying habit in you &
some others in my circle... I will tell them
all the same as you
I will suggest better adjectives for us all....

I'm expecting better adjectives you planned to suggest... If we have the age of our articulations, I'm as old as Mathusalem....Something positive : my brain is getting more and more young
very day! I have the feeling that I watch things and people with more sharpness, discernment and sometimes, indulgence...

I haven't seen those others for at least 4 decades.
Its time! My brother was a film student and
especially recommended "Zazie..." - but I don't
recall seeing that!
The Dowland came!! More....

A splendidly picturesque moment you have captured.
As usual, your crisp lines, shadows and light, and palette
are admirable.
The hills look brown enough to be in my area
(in Summer and Fall) - but for a few months now
it is actually green here - pictures to follow,
to prove that...
I wish you a very merry and happy Christmas
with loved ones around you

I don't want to flatter myself, but really, the original is better than this photo! I'll ask Julie to make another one.
The hills are too "brown": they are clearer on the drawing which has inspired me. The sky too.
The outlines are the ones of some "resistants" leaving the train in the Alps, before the station, in order to escape to the german Gestapo.
As usual, this painting isn't finished....
Christmas is happy(ly) over!!!!!

I cannot fault the technique!
I knew the train itself was for
a dark purpose, but avoided
that subject...
Strangely, it often feels like holidays
for me through the week after
Christmas...

ClairObscur16 In reply to artin2007 [2015-12-26 19:38:06 +0000 UTC]
Why avoiding the "dark" subjects? It has been a reality! There were a crowd of anonym fighters of the underground "shadow," in the Alps. They were called "maquisards".
So, you too do prefer jumping from December 20th to January 5th? One more common point in our long list...
I'll write a note next days.

Merci, cher Cobalt!

Ouf! D'un seul coup, je me sens rudement vieille...
