You lowered the knife. 'No..I can't do it. Not after all she's done for me. I don't know what secrets she's trying to keep from me. But maybe she's just trying to protect me..after all, Toriel did save me from Flowey..'

"I can't.." You whispered, tossing the knife aside. At your actions, Toriel's fireballs dispersed. The goat looked down at you, shocked, but then she gritted her teeth.

"Why are you making this difficult?" She growled. "I thought you were strong-"

"I AM strong," you shot back, glaring up at her. "But haven't you told me not to fight? Because I wouldn't want to hurt anybody? If anything you're sounding like a hypocrite.."

"Not everybody you meet will be willing to talk, [y/n]," Toriel argued, a flame emerging from her palm again, "that is why you must either learn to fight or stay-"

"And what if I can? What if I can talk people out of fighting? There must surely be a way to resolve any conflict..."

"....not always, my child. Now please..go back-"

"But I can show them that humans aren't as bad as they think we are," you said, mustering up a smile despite seeing the frown on Toriel's face. "But honestly, Toriel..what are you afraid of? I can't learn to become stronger if I don't know what's out there..."

A few moments of silence passed, growing tense with each second. Finally, you saw Toriel crack a small smile and the fire vanish from her hands..and her eyes.

"Ha..ha...pathetic, is it not?" She whimpered, tears starting to stream down her furry cheeks as she fell to her knees. "I cannot save even a single child.."

Your eyes widened at her reaction, but you snapped out of it and crouched down. It was then you realized..she was truly trying to protect you, and she's dealt with the pain of losing someone she held dear to her. "I'm sorry.." You whispered, hugging her tightly with tears in your eyes.

"No.." She replied, embracing you. "You'd just be unhappy trapped down here...it..it wouldn't be right for you to grow up in such a place like this. My expectations...my loneliness...my fear..." She sniffled, hugging you tighter as her tears began to dampen your [h/c] hair.

"...for you, my child......I will put them aside," the goat finally spoke.

"No Toriel..I-"

"If you truly wish to leave the Ruins," she began, releasing you, "I will not stop you..but please do not come back. I hope you understand.."

You sniffled lightly, nodding. "I understand Toriel. But..can I still call you so you know that I'm alright?"

Toriel seemed surprised, but then she nodded and hugged you again as tears came back to her eyes. "Yes..anytime. Please do...good luck and goodbye, my child..." She whispered, kissing the top of your head before she let you go.
Rising to her feet, she left you in front of the door. You looked down at the floor, picking up your knife and strapping it to your belt loop.

"Alright...I wonder what awaits me," you chirped, walking towards the exit without ever looking back.

"Clever. Verrrryyy clever..."

"Oh piss off before I start picking your petals out one by one!"

"Hey, hey, what happened to playing 'pacifist'?" Flowey smirked. "Anyways, you think you're really smart, don't ya? In this world it's kill or be killed."

"Yeaaaahhh I don't abide by your little philosophy," you scoffed, "no way in hell am I gonna take advice from a flower, that's for sure."

"So you've played by your own rules: you spared the life of a single person," the flower chuckled, his eyes turning black.
"Okaaaay that's starting to get creepy, and you're suppose to be a cute sunflower.."

"I bet you feel really great...but here's my question: what will you do if you meet a relentless killer?"

"Huh? What's that suppose to-?"

"You'll die and you'll die and you'll die until you tire of trying. What will you do then? Kill out of frustration? Or will you give up entirely on this world....and let ME inherit the power to control it?"

You stared at Flowey for a few moments, emotionless, until you started chuckling...which escalated into laughter. Immediately, his intimidating grin disappeared as he stared at you in confusion. "H-Hey! What's so funny?!"

"Y-You?! A FLOWER?! C-Controlling this entire world?! Tha-That sounds so ridiculous! What are you gonna do? Populate the Underground with sunflowers?!" You fell to the ground in a fit of laughter, failing to realize that a vine was slowly creeping your way..until it wrapped itself around your mouth, muffling your laughter.

Your giggles ceased as you started to struggle, your eyes widening with panic. "I wouldn't underestimate my potential if I were you," Flowey sneered, "I am the prince of this world's future. But don't worry, my little monarch.." As he spoke, he leaned in a bit closer to your face, his grin never leaving his face.

"..my plan isn't regicide...it's something SO much more interesting..."
