Story preview:

Robbie's breaths were labored. Each rattle of his chains reminded him of his confinement. With his hands and knees as his only means of locomotion, he navigated the floor, scrubbing vigorously with a soapy cloth. The chains, five in number, bound his wrists, ankles, and neck. The chains binding his four limbs were connected to a central ring, a metallic octopus that restricted every motion. They clinked and clanked like the song of his servitude.

He couldn't stand, couldn't stretch; the chains ensured that. Like a dog, he moved, his limbs never straying far from each other, the central ring a pivot point of his limited world. But Robbie remained focused. Mrs. Huang's standards were clear – efficiency and perfection. The floors had to gleam, not a speck of dust in sight, especially not now. Summer vacation heralded the return of Mrs. Huang's daughter from her high school in the United States, back to their home in Taiwan. Spotless floors were a necessity, a silent welcome.
