What to even say about the magnificent Kaworu? Holy crap, I have been totally into Evangelion lately. It like...sparked life in me again, haha. I forgot how excited I could get over something, but I swear I am going a bit insane. And it's alright. I finally caved and watched 3.0 on some reaaaaally crappy camrip. I cannot wait to buy the actual dang bluray, though... BUT OH MY GOSSSH. Even on that terrible camrip, I just...wow. Kaworu. I loved him even before from the show and End of Evangelion, but 3.0 just brings my love to an entirely different level.[Okay. Spoilers now. BUT HE JUST IS SO SELFLESS and he has this gentle-hearted kindness he didn't have before. And when he plays the piano... *swoons and dies* AGH. And not to mention the ending. I always hated in the show how Shinji decided to kill Kaworu. I know it was for humankind and all that, but NO. SHINJI, DON'T DO THAT. And in 3.0 how Kaworu decides to sacrifice himself for Shinji instead...Ahhguguguhashdufhasdf. Holy crap. And Shinji's reaction... And the music that plays when he dies. And the build up. And his speech before he dies. I thought I was prepared for his death, but it was just SO SUDDEN AND VIOLENT and I just sobbed harder than I have in like...years, maybe. It was awful. But Shinji and his reaction... They are just beautiful and so tragic. Kaworu. He is so patient and kind and wow, I love him. And the MUSIC in 3.0 is by far my favorite Evangelion soundtrack. HOLY CRAP. Kindred Spirits just gets me. And the lyrics when thinking of Kaworu and Shinji!! AUGH. EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT MOVIE. JUST. UGH.]

Anyways. I am not done with this, but I have been totally neglecting my homework lately and I need to stop that. *smacks self* I'm hoping I can return to this next week for spring break, but until then I really need to put my Evangelion love on HOLD.
I tried a new way of coloring, can you tell? It took me like 1/10th of the time it usually takes. Maybe even less. I liked it a lot better. A lot easier. Not so sure what I think of it, though. Does it looked finished or just like...cheap and hurried? Gosh. I don't even know. I need to do something with that background, but I really don't even know what to do with backgrounds. I was thinking of trying to make it the night sky. Kinda like the official movie poster, which is freaking AWESOME. Yeah. I want to watch that movie again, but I've already seen it three times. Well, I skip the beginning every time and go straight for Kaworu's first appearance. OH, KAWORU.
FREAKING KAWORU.

Really good, I love the way you drew the characters and coloring ! We can imagine Kaworu saying " you're not alone Shinji, don't listen to music but talk to me, I'm here and I won't leave you. "
Kaworu is my favorite character in Eva, and 3.0 makes me cry each time I watch it. I really really hope we will see Kaworu in the next movie, and hope " this time " he will make Shinji happy. Anyway, he promised to Shinji they will meet again, so THEY MUST meet again.Β

Β I hear that Akira Ishida is signed on for all four movies, so I REALLY AM CLINGING to the hope that Kaworu will be back physically and not just a flashback. We're clearly of two different schools of thought on Shinji and Kaworu, though maybe 3.0 paints him in a different light than his one episode in the original series does. That said, after watching 2.0, I'm probably not going to go out of my way to see 3.0 and 4.0, as the whole Rebuild series (pretty as it is) strikes me almost like a really bad fan fiction or something... Buhhh.... Evangelion was never about characters successfully connecting and communicating with each other. The whole driving force behind the original series was everyone's innate inability to reach beyond their own introspection and communicate their feelings. In 2.0, within her first like ten minutes of screen time Asuka has a successful therapy session with Misato, Shinji all but goes out on a date with Rei...... just.... buhhh....
It is really pretty though. And the fighting is cool. It just seems like a typical mecha anime to me now. I feel like Hideaki Anno pulled a George Lucas on me...

Haha, I can see that. Rebuild and the show are very different creatures. I heard somewhere (though, I am not sure if it's truuuuue), that Hideko Anno was like...depressed while making the series, but now he's happy and living the good life while making Rebuild?? I think I heard it on Tumblr, so don't trust it, but it would make sense, I think.
I actually really liked how Rei was a bit more human in 2.0. The bond that formed between her and Shinji just made me so happppyyyy!! I will admit that the movies aren't as psychologically mind blowing as the series, but it has its own charm.
KAWORU. Like...I could rant about him for five hundred days in a row, buuuttt I'll just...not. He is VERY different in 3.0 than he is in the show. He kinda creeped me out in the series, honestly. Have you read the manga? He's even worse in the manga for me. But he is just...like...the ANTIDOTE to Shinji's depression in the movie and ahhh. I love him. Man. Did you not like him in the show? What'd you think of him?
But oooh!! I hope you do watch 3.0 sometime! It is very good. Though, I can't say it touches base with what you like in the series, but...BUT...BUUUTTT. I dunno. They are just two separate things and I love them both, so it works out for me.
OH! ALSO. Have you heard of the loop theory? I am not even sure if that's what it's actually called, but I just read about it the other day, and it blew my mind.

Yeah, Anno was seeeriously depressed while making the show (hence why it's so bleak, and also why I probably like it so much).
I have read the manga, at least up to a certain point (issue 10 maybe?) I think it portrays Kaworu more in the light that I saw him in the show, creepy as that portayal may be. I donno... the briefness of his appearance in the actual show left a lot of ambiguity around his motivation for breaching Nerv and connecting with Shinji, so it could go either way. He's an interesting character for sure. I think his motivations are certainly multifaceted to say the least.
Maybe I'll watch it eventually if an oppertunity just sort of falls into my lap, but I'm still too grumped up from 2.0 to seek it out, haha.
Loop theory for Evangelion you mean? I've heard speculation that Rebuild is an alternate possibility for reality taking place after 3rd impact in the original series. There have been several manga series and videogames that play off that same premise, or at least rift off the final episode's little section where Rei is all ditzy and Asuka walks Shinji to school and stuff, so it wouldn't suprise me too much. Is that what you're talking about? More likely though, it seems like Anno has just entered a different place in his life, and is taking Evangelion with him...which sort of cheeses me off. But I'm a grumpy Evangelion purist..soooo... *grumps* :I

But yeah, that is pretty much what I meant about the loop theory. I think. I was thinking of it from more of a Kaworu point of view, but I don't want to like...spoil 3.0 for you. But like how at the end of ...1.0 or 2.0 how he was all like, "THIS TIME I'll make you happy". People were wondering if it was just a translation error, or if he really meant, "THIS TIME". MYSTERIOUUUUUSSSS. A beautiful mystery. I really like that idea, though. Since it seems to make sense, I don't even care what's actually canon. The manga just makes me mad and Rebuild gets so different it just would lace it together nicely.
Okay, I will stop talking about it. I don't want to make you remember bad Rebuild memories, haha. I have been watching the series with Michelle lately and she's ten and like......I DON'T KNOOOOW if she's the right AGE for ittttt, because I keep trying to ask her what she thinks when she's watching it and she's just like...speechless. And not in an "in awe" way but in a like "frightened she can't even speak" sort of way. Hahahahaha. But she loves it when she's not stunned.

Yeah, there's one called the Shinji Ikari Raising Project. I think it's like a dating sim or something. There are also some fighting games and stuff.
Yeah, I remember that scene. It does sort of seem like he's tying them together somehow, but unless 4.0 has some sort of crazy amazing ending then I doubt I'll invest myself too heavily. It would be cool if it tied in. It just seems like Anno's almost trying to like... "correct" the orginal series though. I think that's what has me most up in arms. I LIKE IT THE WAY IT IS ANNO, GEEZ!!

I felt like he was just trying to compress the series into little prettier films. But I still see the series as like...finished and polished and placed safely into a little box in my heart, so I think that might be helping me? I don't know. I don't really think Rebuild needs to be thought about if you don't want to. If you don't like it, you don't like it! Can't be helped. But you'll always have your show.
She's tennnnnn. We finished EoE yesterday, hahahahaha. I think she was mostly just confused and basically nothing else. I let her watch a bit of Asuka and Shinji's freak outs, but she didn't get it at all. She was just like, "Wow...I still like Shinji, but he's really crazy. Why is he like that?" And I was just like...maybe one day you will relate. Hopefully not...but maybe. Haha. I fast forwarded basically most of the movie, though, and a great majority of the later episodes. But yeah, I think I was about fourteen when I first watched it, too. I remember watching it for the first time and just having my mind basically explode. It was WHAT I HAD BEEN SEARCHING FOR. I think, in a strange way, it helped me a lot. Oh man, thank goodness for it.

The coloring is much more sharp and flat and clean than your usual style, it looks good! Of course I will always love your soft style of coloring, but it's great to experiment too! I think a starry sky would have fit well here too, the movie poster is beautiful. c:

Yeah! I do like how it looks cleaner. Although, I almost need to clean up the lines a bit, too. I usually just keep my sketch throughout the whole thing, but eeehhh... You can kinda see that I started going over Shinji's face with the lineart pen thing. And then I gave up. HA!

Aaah lineart, my greatest enemy. At least your sketches are neat though, I think it looks great here, especially on Kaworu because he's so light and you have that glow around him.
That's good to hear! It's such a shame that he was only in one episode, he is my favorite character in the series too. And yeah, I saw the tv series, and End of Evangelion, but not Rebuild. But I kind of really want to see them now that Kaworu has finally appeared. *A*

Oh my gosh! Definitely see Rebuild!! I am liking it a lot. I don't want to say that I like it more than the show because I love the show, but the art is a lot prettier to me in Rebuild. The animation is so oooold in the show... I am not sure when 3.0 comes out on DVD for NA, but it's coming out on DVD for Japan on like...the 24th of April or something? I forget. One of the twenties. I am so excited!!! The camrip was literally the worst one I have ever watched. Worth it, but STILL. The person moved CONSTANTLY throughout the recording. I just want to buy it on bluray and watch it all day and ahhh.

I was originally planning to wait until all the movies were out so I could just marathon them. I like Evangelion, but I don't love it so much that I can't wait. So at first that seemed like no problem, but now that Kaworu has shown up, I dunno if I want to wait that long. KAWORU. I can definitely wait for DVD though, no camrips for me. The screenshots I've seen look beautiful, the art is definitely an upgrade from the show.

Yeah, I go through my phases. I really did think I was going to make it until it came out on bluray...and then I saw Kaworu's face....and I just...I JUST.
PIANO. THE PIANO GETS ME. Something about beautiful angel boys and music just really messes with my head, haha. They are my absolute favorite type of character. Oh, boy.
But good idea. I wish I had waited, too, in a way. Like...there was a really intense scene and I was totally into it, and then the person just like...shifted and was recording the ceiling and you could barely see ANYTHING. I was like ANNOOooossooooooooo. But I guess it lets me stay excited for seeing ALL of it later on.
AND YES. THE ANIMATION. I thought Kaworu was beautiful before, but this leaves anime!Kaworu in the dust... Ahhh... *angel chorus*

Looks so much different from what you normally do, such a change, normally you color like watercolor, but this is very cel shaded, i like it a lot
and even you a solid one color background, you make better backgrounds than i do xD
