I get this sense of truly being alone in this picture, pondering over what happened during the day. It's eerie and peaceful to me.

I think this photograph is stunning. I get a real sense of emotion from this. To me it feels as if he's just driving in order to feel nothing, if only for a few hours. He doesn't know where he's going, just wishes he could get there.

I feel the song "Cologne" by 'Ben Folds' Goes very well with this photograph.

Excellent work xx

Great shot. Really captures the moment. Works well in black and white, too.

The tight field of depths adds alot to the image heightening the tension between the hand and the face in the mirror. The eyes looking out into the unclear adds a great deal to it as well. Making you stay that bit longer "staring" as Hockney would say at it. Nice work.

Late night driving,
wondering where to go
take a few turns,
losing direction
lost in the city
lost in the thoughts
the night is so long
too long

it captures the emotion of driving alone at late night, wanting to be lost.

i love these kinds of shots ...

made a couple myself!!

there's something about a person's face in a car mirror ...

and 1.4 ...

that i just love!

My opinion is that the hand is very important here, it's what makes the difference!
I like the DOF tought

I really dig how the shallow focus makes the city lights through the window an abstract wash of tones and circles. It's a very cinematic photograph.

just let me say, amazing dof. this shot's not that original, but it's execution makes it something special.

kinda gives me a sad, lonely feeling. like he's been driving for hours and hasn't found what he's looking for... or more like what he's looking for is gone. i have no idea if that's what it's supposed to mean, but that's what i think now...

Suzie006 In reply to claytes [2006-04-18 16:37:56 +0000 UTC]

ok then...

it seems like many thoughts are running through his head...

I would say his wife left him. he doesn't look 'ok'.

and he doesn't know what to do...

so he's just driving his expensive car - music is very loud - and trying to escape.

this photo reminds me of my favourite book "the world according to garp". dunno why.

so here's my amazing interpretation

to be honest, i used auto focus and focused on his face thru the mirror

"from people who are not attached to it" i have that problem a lot.

it's the human touch. if those eyes weren't there that photo would never exist. and it has that "lost highway" mood. and i love mirrors.

i like it a lot. because his eyes are caught in the mirror i get a good sense of your subject, and the hands add character too. the shallow dof works, seems to limit our attention and lends a solitary mood.
