Description So, weathering attempt number three is a go. I have no idea how I did.

This is the 1/144 HGUC Gelgoog Marine from Stardust Memories. It's a beast and I hope my work does it service. I was trying to make it look like a well loved machine that has parts banged up and replaced often (actually, the little thrusters on its backpack are the ones left over from the HG Gundam I used for making the Prototype Gundam... the originals fell off and I didn't notice it until... well, years later). I was originally going to use the machine gun but opted against it. This guy looks like he does for a reason. He likes it rough and rowdy, up close and very personal. Of course, nothing says a woman isn't he pilot either. I think Zeon is pretty much an equal opportunity piloting group. I have no clue what rank I gave this unit as I wanted to keep it all white decals. Yellow and red just didn't look right. Since Gouf ran off with the last of the white lowest rank, I went with this. Whatever rank it is, I haven't the foggiest.

Dullcoating fried my brain, attempted washing mixed with pen work unscrewed most of the damage. Paint flecks and rust bubbles created with household salt setting on the primer.

Colors:

Model Master: Gunship Gray, Medium Gray, Pale Green
Polly S: Grimy Black, Steam Power Black

All because kept on me about trying to expand my horizons. I like what happened here.

The weathering looks really cool. Makes it look more realistic too.

Heh, thank you. I'm not sure if it's done yet, though. I'm eventually going to add some powder weathering to really add to the beaten look. I just didn't have the cash flow to go up to Duluth and get the stuff and figured to show what I had done so far in attempt to see what I'm grasping and what I'm missing. Seems so far I went a wee bit crazy with the paint chipping and may have put some where it may not necessarily chipped normally. Still, I like how it's looking so far.

Heavily battered~ the chips add real character to it, but I think it's very unlikely to have the paint chipping off at the thighs.

They're more likely to happen at areas with the most contact, or friction.

Great build, but still a bit too "clean" imho... Maybe some hints of black powder/pastel pigments can improve it a little ^^ But that's just me

That's what I thought, but just not really sure where to kick some of it on the kit. Every thruster aims away and I have no idea what's exhaust and intake in the various ports and slots on its frame.

Nice work! It's getting a lot better and better. Artistically, the chipping works very well, though a bit overdone at some areas. Scalewise, a real mech standing at 17 meters++ would have far less chipping exposed. It's not like Zeon had lost budget in painting their mechs that they chip off easily

Looking forward to your next build!

I thought that too. Just everything I read about this design seemed to suggest that it was a hacked and thrown together mass produced kit after the war and even getting parts for it was a pain so I figured to go nuts and show it just looking like hell. Guessed not all these suits ended up in Cima's fleet and a few had to be raising hell on Earth just doing the normal hit and run techniques. Gotta master this weathering since I have a a 1/144 EX Series Hildolfr transforming tank to assemble.
