Description It will make him cry, just look at him...

A signature banner I made quickly but wanted to share. X3

A lot of adoptables on PonyIsland are being forced to change their images because they drew anatomically correct male dogs with sheaths. Sheaths do NOT equal penises. They are protectors yes, but I'd hardly consider that genitals. Note the actual PSA that was posted on the forums(anyone can go and read this I'm not posting vital info XD) :

"It seems that some clarification on this matter is required, as there is some confusion that needs to be cleared up. The rules of PonyIsland require that all content be appropriate for all ages, and this includes adoptables, naturally. However, there are a number of adoptables that under the heading of 'realism' have included obvious genitals on the male lineart, and this is clearly not appropriate for PI.

Therefore, anyone whose adoptable includes such obvious anatomy is required to remove those parts immediately. This covers both adjusting your lineart templates to remove such parts, as well as editing all existing adoptables. Owners will not be required to remove the adoptables from their presentation, as some time leeway is allowed for the relevant adoptables to edit their templates. However, no additional, new sales may be made until all existing adoptables have been edited.

Some adoptables have already received messages about this matter, but obviously it's not feasible to go through each and every adoptable to make sure each one is okay. Therefore, please view this pinned thread as official notification that obvious genitalia are not required to make an adoptable 'realistic', and must therefore be removed.

Please note that although this is not explicitly stated in the rules, we had previously considered the rules regarding appropriate content to be sufficient. Now that we are aware that there has apparently been some misunderstanding, this matter will of course be included in the next rules update, which will cover everything relating to artwork and adoptables.

Thank you for your co-operation."

So please, don't do this to Rufus... all he did was want to be a happy puppy...

I don't frequent PonyIsland (or even know what it is), but your banner is so cute that I felt like commenting.

First things first. Many people associate the sheaths as being the same thing as the penis in boy dogs. I used to work in a spay/neuter clinic, and many people thought neutered boy dogs would have that sheath removed in the procedure. I think that's because many boy dogs lose some muscle tone in that area following the procedure so it looks smaller (that's due to loss of male sex hormones). Anyways those people were the ones who thought neutering meant that their boy dogs would be girl dogs afterwards. It's not the same thing! Urgh! Such a pain to explain that the sheath (and penis) were left alone. Clearly the actual anatomy was not important in this case.

I'm not familiar with this issue in the art world, but I NEVER like drawing that part of boy dogs on my cartoony characters. It just doesn't look right in my opinion. Plus I'm just not comfortable doing it. That goes for any male canine that even looks a bit cartoony in my drawings (which is a lot of them). My more realistic dogs sometimes have them, sometimes don't.

The same applies to female dogs who are suckling pups-- I don't add their swollen mammary glands in my drawings. I'm an equal opportunist.

I tend to draw my dogs gender-neutral anyways and may make one male (or female) later.

All that said, I don't see why such things should be an issue in regards to OTHER people's artwork. It's their business if they want to add such details.

Maybe adoptables can be drawn in positions where their gentia (or sheaths in this case) wouldn't be visible to the viewer. That might be a compromise.

Good luck though.

The problem was that there was an adoptable that was around for a couple years now that had over 500 males out there (with slight bumps not even really detailed sheaths)that were being forced to not only change their templates to match this rule, were also being forced to close and change all 500 before they could sell again. Which is quite a bit of work of changing things.

But the mods came to some kind of a compromise on this and the rule has been edited now. But there's still a few adoptables that have branched off and left PI so really, not everyone can be happy I guess. X3

Well that's dumb. If the people in charge are really that bothered by them, they should edit them themselves, and not expect the artist to do it. See how they like 'fixing' 500 adoptables. Lol, but that's not fair to the people who adopted. I rember how much people at a Neopets forum I used to post at sometimes dreaded pet revamps, and this is about just as bad.

Like I said before, I don't like adding such details for the most part, but that doesn't give me the right to tell others not to include them. I can either ignore them in the adoptable or simply not adopt those sorts of adoptables. Or if the person making adoptables takes requests, I can ask them to leave that detail out.

I hope things have worked out since you originally posted though.

Um, last time I checked dogs have visible penises (well, sheaths) and balls, any 5 year old could tell you that (and point them out to you if youre unsure)

Exactly. Although I don't consider a sheath and a penis the same thing. The sheath hides it after all. XD

But *shrugs* apparently it's a major issue.

Yea but knowing it's there and covered, versus exposing it is different to me lol. XD

Oh well doesn't really matter in the end. ^^

...WTF? That's a little -too- much censorship, IMO, even for PI. >.>

I mean if they left it to just the anthros, it would have been fine. This is changing a lot...

I had no idea this was going on, as it's been a long time since I frequented the adoptables forum but seriously, this is ludicrous. I've put this in my signature. Thanks for putting this on here. I wouldn't have know otherwise.

It seems PI has made more and more decisions that have made the people angrier and angrier.
