Description

Continuing the D&D storyline - This is from the same campaign as Dark Sunset, Kur, Son of Tiamat, and, It's a Golden Opportunity Don't You Think , rounding out the saga a few months after the encounter with Lesser Evil.

Our cleric had been seeing a purple tint to the horizon for most of the campaign (I am scared of the color yellow, and the cleric's player is scared of the color purple - thank you DM!), and when we reached level 20, suddenly the situation worsened - we could all see it. We were being hunted by chromatic dragons for killing Kur, and we soon found out that the reason for the purple sky was the result of a god war. The creation of a new god far earlier in the campaign and the death of Kur led to an imbalance in the domains of the gods. The sun god Pelor was weakening, and had come to find us, or more specifically, our cleric - Kira was given the option to become the new sun god, which she accepted.

We boarded an airship bound for a portal to the dimension the gods were fighting in - the dimension was the domain of Mahstahr, a former companion (former PC of the DM, who inherited the campaign from another DM) and the new right-hand god to Tiamat. Mahstahr had transformed into a green dragon with red accents (specifically referencing the design of Jawzahr from the Mythical Monsters books), and together with Tiamat had killed Quetzalcoatl and severely wounded Bahamut. Bane and Helm fought elsewhere on the ground, each commanding armies. Great Wyrm dragons fought in the skies above. And we were joining the fray.

After a relatively short conflict with a minor deity who (temporarily) commanded the Chaos Serpent (sibling conceptual to Lesser Evil), Lorenzo (bard) and Darkmoon (fighter) challenged Mahstahr, while Aisling (druid) and Kira (Cleric/Sun God) challenged Tiamat.

Darkmoon used a divine artifact to transform into a Great Wyrm Brass Dragon, and both Lorenzo and Darkmoon's divine artifacts summoned spectral weapons - a pair of crescent Gorgon horns and scorpion pincers and tail. After a long, drawn out, and irritating fight, Lorenzo's divine instrument beheaded Mahstahr. The immortal dragon shouted curses and profanities, opting to flee with his head in his claws.

Aisling, upon taking severe damage from Tiamat, transformed into her Song Dragon form, continually receiving healing from Kira. Tiamat, being too angry with Aisling for being the reason Kur's divine essence didn't return to her, opted to ignore Kira, allowing Kira to heal Aisling to full HP every turn. Aisling chipped away at the divine dragon's health, eventually bringing her down. Before she could regenerate, spectral tendrils arose from the ground and began dispersing her, which we then realized had also occurred to Quetzacoatl.

Once the fighting had settled, we learned that new beings would be given the positions of the fallen gods - Aisling and Darkmoon were both offered the position of Quetzacoatl, but both refused, though Aisling asked for Kur to be brought back, but as a hatchling with no memories so he could have a chance to have a good upbringing (this chapter was later named "Child Protective Services" in reference to Tiamat's poor parenting).

As we players were given a wrap up to our character's stories, we were also given a cutscene of sorts: Mahstahr, after the fighting had finished, flew about his domain, still seething. A fissure of darkness opened up beneath him, and a giant oily black hand snatched his head from his claws, pulling it into the fissure. His body struggled and spasmed, falling still several minutes after the fissure closed. We had just gotten our first hint at the Universe-Hopping campaign (parallel timeline, same PCs), and the first taste of the Horror Campaign (ongoing, different characters, dying universe - includes Sol ).
